Hopefully this means things are moving for you :).

How long have you been earning over £18,600 salary? If it was less than 6 months at the time of applying for the visa, it’s a requirement to provide 12 months of payslips and bank statements, to prove you earned at least £18,600 before tax during those 12 months.

If you have been earning £18,600 salary for at least 6 months at the time of application, then you only need to provide 6 months of payslips and bank statements.

I have been earning above for 18 months now.

Our application was rejected last year due to not earning enough money the previous year of application (so 2015-2016) as I was a trainee teacher.

They have asked for 12 months bank statements with proof of salary, which the statements all have.

Hopefully it's a positive. If there were any other major issues I'm sure they would have mentioned them in the same email. Although you never know with the home office!

Edit- to add more info as our case is not totally straight forward. I was a police officer and my wife was given a visa back in 2013. When we came to renew I had just become a teacher after a year of training. Therefore in the year before the renewal application I had not met the financial criteria.

After a year of waiting the visa was denied and my wife voluntarily left to reapply in the USA. I am assuming they want the extra info as we were previously rejected due to finances (and awful legal counsel)

Ah... maybe they want to confirm earnings over the 12 months because of the refusal.

Fingers crossed you hear back soon :).

Did you submit a letter from your employer?  Did they specify that you are salaried or non-salaried?

Yes had letters confirming I was salaried and on a permanent contract. Also included my contract and pay slips

And none of the payslips dropped under £1,550/month gross pay?

I'm glad they've requested additional from you.  Just trying to figure out why.  This doesn't happen often.

Yeah all were over that as I earn £24500.

I'm assuming they are wanting to confirm that it's been happening for  a full year.

I agree with you it's strange, but I am hoping it's a positive, as I can't cope with any more disappointment. We hit all the criteria, so fingers crossed.

Cool.  I wasn't sure if it worked the same as a teacher.  I know in the USA you can elect to only get paid 10 months versus for 12 months.  :)

Yes I've heard that as some of my wife's friends are teachers. Thankfully we do it over the 12 months.

I did however move to a new school in September so that may be the reason they want to see further bank statements.

Was it a new job contract with a new employer? (That's really what I meant when I asked how long you'd been earning... what matters is how long you have been earning £18,600 with your CURRENT employer)

If so, that would be the reason for needing to send 12 months, as you would need to meet the income requirements under Category B:
- you've been in your current job for LESS than 6 months (and it pays at least £18,600 per year)
AND
- you must have earned at least £18,600 before tax in the last 12 months

Yes new employer. I have earned that amount over the 12months but with two employers.

That  makes sense now why they want the bank statements!

Mystery solved!  Thankfully they requested the extra bank statements and didn't outright refuse.  Whew!

Ah, all makes perfect sense now.

Did they request 12 months of corresponding payslips as well? (or had you sent those already?)

You're very lucky they requested the extra and didn't refuse the visa outright because you actually didn't qualify under Category A (the 6 months category) and needed to apply under Category B (the 12 months category).

They have just asked for bank statements.

I actually sent all my pay slips for both jobs as thought ' better to be safe than sorry

Didn't do the same with bank statements though  :o
