Starting in Scotland but hopefully soon near Manchester area. But I’m always good for a travel somewhere new.

An escalation likely means nothing if you called the paid hotline... Unfortunately that staff can't really do anything and often will say anything to make you happy. If it hits 60 business days I'd get your MP involved but you should hear before then. :)

Okay! I didn’t ask to escalate it, she offered, and she just said that meant someone would be in touch with more info in 5-10 business days. Seems unlikely though! I hope we don’t get to 60 days :/

If we start counting business days on the day after the biometrics, then we’re on day 35. We’ve already booked our wedding, and in order to keep that date, she needs to fly in by business day 54. We shall see I guess!

You start counting from the documents received date. Seems to be in the 30-35 range still so hopefully you'll hear soon!

If you applied from the US (as almost everyone on this forum does), your processing time starts from the day you got the email stating your documents have been received in Sheffield... after you have mailed everything to them. This is because there is a gap between giving biometrics in the US and your application and documents being received by UKVI in Sheffield - they can’t start processing your application if they don’t have it yet.

In other countries though (possibly Singapore?), the application form and documents are submitted in person at the biometrics appointment so the processing count starts from the biometrics date for those people.

Oh I see! We had to send our documents to Sheffield too, they didn’t take them at the biometrics appointment, so I assume we count from the date of the documents received email too. Although I don’t think we got a docs received email, just an email to say your application is being prepared by an ECO, which I assume is roughly around the same time. That was on May 13th, although I know docs physically arrived May 2nd. At any rate, we’re probs still around 30 working days at the mo, yea. Hopefully not much longer!!!

Thank you! I’m trying to stay positive! I suppose if there was a problem they’d ask us for more documents at some point. I’ll give them anything they want! 😂

That IS your documents received email - it's the email from Sheffield confirming that they have your application and therefore can start processing it.

Yeah, it can take a while between the documents arriving in the Sheffield mail room and someone actually logging the into the system, therefore triggering the 'documents received' email and starting the processing time count.

Normally though, for a priority application, you will receive the email within a couple of days of the documents arriving. Not sure if the instructions for priority are the same as for US applications, but when you sent it, did you write SETTLEMENT PRIORITY PROCESSING in very large letters on the outermost packaging, and place the priority receipt on the very top of the documents?

They sort documents into priority vs. non-priority as soon as they arrive, before the package is opened, so if you didn't indicate on the outside of the package that it was Priority, it may have been put on the non-priority pile and therefore not opened for a couple of weeks.

If you received your email on May 13th, then you are currently at 23 business days processing time.

However, there is no guarantee that it will be processed in 30 days anyway, and technically, you should not contact UKVI to complain until at least 60 business days have passed.

When you 'called UKVI', you actually talked to a third-party contractor who is nowhere near Sheffield and has no access to your application (all they can do is type your details into their computer and read off what it says, which is usually wrong). They are known for giving incorrect and inaccurate information and don't usually know what they are talking about.

Thank you! I’m trying to stay positive! I suppose if there was a problem they’d ask us for more documents at some point. I’ll give them anything they want! 😂

They may contact you for more documents, but I wouldn't count on it, as they are under no obligation to do so. In recent years, they have been better at contacting the applicant for more information, but they don't always.

Thanks for all the info. I didn’t write Priority on the front of the envelope, but I did put the document from VFS Global receipt on the top of the docs, and it had a Priority red stamp on it. Even if they weren’t aware it was priority from the outside of the envelope, I assume once they input the info and connect it up with our online application, they’ll be aware then? What I mean is, our Priority payment won’t go to waste?

I didn’t call to complain, I just called to ask the status as I had read it was 30 days from biometrics and we were around that point, and thought I’d call on the off chance they had anything useful to say. She offered the information that they she can escalate it at this point. Perhaps she was just saying that, I’m not sure.
