Collected the BRP today. It's finally over. Time to start preparing for renewal!!

If we wanted to move to the US, how problematic would that be under current US rules when we've both been living in the UK -- and what's the solution?! Want to think ahead now we know what a minefield this can be.

It's a lot easier to move to the USA.  It's a multi stage process and can take awhile.  The embassy recommends starting 10 months before a proposed move.  But the reality is that you can usually get everything processed in about 4 months.  Total cost is under $1,000 and your spouse will be issued with a 10 year green card.  After three years, they can apply for citizenship if they choose.  It's entirely different.  No less stressful, but more transparent, affordable, and longer term.

So the fact we lived in the  UK isn't an issue? Cool!

Presumably requires a financial sponsor in the US? Because being in the UK we can't meet the earning requirement.

Also, if there's ANY chance of moving back to the UK after spending some time in the US, try and get UK citizenship before you leave.

The US does allow third party sponsorship, unlike the UK.

My husband received his spouse visa this week!

Timeline:
Bio and docs sent: August 9 (Priority from Boston, USA)
Docs received email: August 14
Decision made email: Sept 13
Passport returned/Visa received: Sept 17
Time from docs received email: 24 business days

While the process was challenging and at times tortuous, the logistics worked as they should. For everyone still waiting or in the process of applying, the best advice I can share is to be thorough in gathering your documents, get everything in order, ask questions if you're not sure, and trust the system to come through.

Good luck to those of you waiting for that oh-so-important moment.

Literally JUST received the Decision Made email for my daughter.

I'm ecstatic and panicky and all the feelings that come with this.

I'm going to be stalking the tracker. I want to call my mom so bad, but it's only 4:30am there. I'm going to cry or puke or something, I don't know.

20BD from the doc received email. 18 from the email requesting the IHS payment.
I'm shaking.

Breathe!!  *hugs*

You've been requested to pay the IHS fee, and the decision was quick.  It'll be good news, and finally so!

Rose, this is it!  Remember last time there was no request for the IHS fee.  That is your bit to hold onto!  You've got this!   ;D
