The way they rolled this out without proper instruction to applicants and obviously, their own staff is deplorable.

"The UK Decision Making Centre is currently assessing the application submitted by the above named. Due to a technical error with scanning your documents we are unable to conclude the application at this time as we require additional information."

What a hot mess! It totally grinds my gears that they ask for “additional information” when it’s not additional to any of us. Most of us here have sent them the originals as well as a copy of all the items they are again requesting. I know I shouldn’t be surprised however, I  am amazed at what they are currently getting away with.

I've known quite a few people who have been approved by sending just copies. That is all VFS asks for now. Another thing is to make copies of the copies (and/or originals) and have them saved on your computer in case you get the dreaded email from UKVI stating that your copies have been misplaced and they want you to email them the copies. Thankfully we always keep pdf copies of all documents even before this fiasco. But we also aren't applying until March, so all the hiccups will hopefully get sorted before then. :(
Even when life seems at it's most dark and despairing.. there is within the power to make change.

As of Oct 31st they are offering the option of scanning and sending them in yourself. I was leaning towards that when I applied a couple weeks ago, but ultimately decided to send them because that option was so new and no one had experience with it yet. I we didn't have our big wedding booked for March 31st in Edinburgh and I had more time to deal with potential hiccups, I would have definitely chosen that option. I know if I am the one doing the scanning that nothing would be missed!

That’s interesting to know! So all document requests seem to be via email now?

I think he’s planning on applying standard processing (though i’m Trying to convince him priority!) so we won’t be using VFS will we?

I plan on scanning and copying my documents before travelling to the US after Xmas, and just leaving him with the originals just in case. Heck i scan all my bills when they come in because I hate having random paperwork lying around  ;D

You can choose to scan all the documents when applying from in the USA? Wow that would make everything so much easier getting documents to spouses in the USA.

Would you just post your passport to New York in that case then? X

When I applied on Visa4UK it asked me to choose self-scan or send docs to NYC. I chose send to NYC but when I went to biometrics the "next steps" paper they gave me had more info on it regarding self-scan. It stated that as of Oct 31, 2018 it is a new option. I was torn between what to do but ultimately decided on NYC only because no one had experience with the self-scan yet. and I couldn't risk not being there by March 30th.

Yep.. same here... I did upload one page, think my sponsor letter ,just to get past that part. I can see scanning issues more with self-scanning as opposed to actually holding them and scanning them. Oh I agree, let us at this scanning business, we will have everyone finished in a day  ;D

That makes complete sense for your reasons! Fingers crossed you hear something soon.

Hopefully by January when applications come back it will be more clean which is the fastest way. I like the idea of scanning the documents, sounds a lot safer. Fortunately we aren’t time sensitive, as we are getting on NYE while I’m visiting the US  over new year. But the sooner the better definitely!

By scanning issues do you mean issues with getting accepted?

I spend all day scanning legal documents at work, some of them are appalling and not readable, no idea how people think they are acceptable.

The only time you send the docs via email is if you get an email from UKVI stating that they never received the documents in the first place. Otherwise you have to send them to the NY office or do self upload. Doing the self upload has been very hit or miss for some I've seen. I've known of at least 2 that were able to do it successfully. Others have run into errors on the website when trying.

Regardless of which option you do, your passport and certain other documents still have to get sent to NY.

When I paid for the Visa  and shipping, I got to a screen that wouldn't let me bypass it until I uploaded a document, so I uploaded the Sponsor letter to satisfy it, as I have heard other's having to do as well. Once I uploaded something, it let me continue

That makes sense. Am I right I’m thinking you’ll be told what documents to post / upload.

Looking forward to hearing the times etc and overall experience with at home scanning x

I don't have the paper they gave me at biometrics in front of me, but I am almost certain that for the self-scan option it said you would still need to send your passport, passport photo, first page of application, and stamped/signed biometrics sheet to NYC and the rest of the docs you would upload yourself.

Yes this is how it goes, you scan most of the evidence and the biometrics page, passport, signed application page has to go to NYC.
