Wow, lucky you!  Congrats!

Question for those that have been around here a while.  How can this be?  The way I see it, there are 2 explanations....

1) This is a completely random process and they don't process them in any kind of order

or

2) There is a problem with the applications that were received before this one, causing them to be skipped over

What am I missing?

What am I missing?

It's probably neither.

Over the last few months, Sheffield have had a habit of processing some applications quickly towards the end of the month in order to make their monthly processing statistics look better.

This happened in July and August as well... there was a flurry of decisions and applications processed really quickly right before the end of the month, even though other people had been waiting for weeks for their decision.

Also, it's not uncommon for some applications to take longer than others anyway, for any number of other reasons:
1) each ECO is likely to have been given a pile of applications to work through and some may get through theirs faster than others
2) a particular ECO might go on holiday or be off sick, meaning their pile of applications might not be worked through as quickly as someone else's, or they might be assigned to a different ECO who has other applications to work through first
3) there may be a complicated application in your ECO's pile that takes longer to process, meaning it takes them a longer to get to yours.
4) if an application requires more documents or further looking into, it's likely to be put to one side while they wait for the documents/further checks, so they will likely process applications that arrived later in the mean time.

We refer to these applications as the chosen unicorns.

It just skews the stats in their favor making Sheffield appear to be processing faster than reality.  It's not fair to those waiting OR to those using the statistics to decide if they should apply for priority or not.  But it's what they do...

It's completely understandable and I'm genuinely happy for those that get their applications processed so quickly.  Part of me can't help look on enviously though but it's the luck of the draw I guess.

Hopefully the rest of us still waiting will get some positive news shortly.

Genuine heartfelt congratulations to all those who've just received their decisions.  Here's hoping you're all with your loved ones in time for xmas.

I know people have waited so much longer than this but it's killing me...another week end now and it feels like wasted days. What is the earliest you can escalate without pissing them off?? Xx

Escalating doesn’t exist.  All it does is cost you money and at some point you will receive a chosen form letter in response that are often inaccurate.

Hi all

Congrats to everyone who has received their decision – hope you all have a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones!

We’re on day 19/20 today, so hoping to hear in the next week or so.

As we’re getting closer to a decision I’m starting to get nervous and just wanted to clarify something to (hopefully) put our minds at rest:

I’m living in rented accommodation.  I included a letter form my landlord which states that my fiancée could live with me 'for the duration of her visa', as well as my tenancy agreement.

However, my tenancy agreement ends on 20 January.  My fiancées application listed 1 January as her preferred date of travel to the UK.  Our wedding is booked for March.

Will the fact my contract expires ahead of the wedding affect our application?  I assumed that this would be a relatively common situation and they would understand that we will be extending our tenancy / finding similar rented accommodation at the end of the current agreement, but my mind has been wandering and wanted to double check…

Many thanks!

I can’t imagine that it will be an issue.
