In MrsPoetryMan's case, there were unspecified "technical issues" in her application processing.

However,
generally speaking, the "not straightforward" email has historically been automatically generated when an application reaches a certain threshold of time (60WDs?).  It is a device used by Home Office to cover themselves, and is in no way related to the actual content of the application.

Edit: I thought MrsPoetryMan also received the not-straightforward email.

Thank you, I hope you hear something soon too..frustrating to say the least ...

I've heard back from Sheffield twice since last week. My mum is having surgery so I asked my MP's caseworker to request Sheffield to expedite the process if possible. They sent me an email last week and another on Tuesday saying they cannot return my passport and supporting docs until my application is complete. I received another email today with the dreaded processing of my application has not been straightforward. I really don't get why it took so long to realize this...not sure if this is true or was sent to buy more time. See below...

No she was told by Sheffield  it was due to technical issues  ( MP confirmed this )

We got an email last week on the 45 WD which apologized for the delay and not meeting the expected time frame ( that was from Sheffield )

I just wondered why these priority apps are taking so long and if they are actually in the standard pile.

I think you are correct! My case is not actually complicated. None of the conditions in the priority service conditions apply to me. Source of income through my wife's employment (single source over 6 months). Married for over 4 years and lived together in NY for 3 years. No criminal records. No benefits taken of any sorts. Never been refused a visa to any country. Been to UK and europe over 10 times never overstayed. We have joint and individual accounts and all of them are in very good standing.

Was your application really not straightforward or is that a smoke screen  ???

Hopefuly smoke screen! I did not expect a not straightforward email because my application was actually straightforward...see above

What? That doesn't make any sense...I think they are sending these emails so they can say your case was processed as priority but your application was complicated so it took so long

Honestly priority is a hit or miss...I guess you have to be a unicorn

I hear ya we said ours was straightforward
We have been married 27 years hubby who is applying for the visa originally from SA had green card became citizen in 2006.
I have dual nationality US/UK
Savings route to meet financial requirement
No criminal hx
Will be living with my mother (who lives alone, well not really we sent our dog over there in Dec 2018 so she has him  ;)) She owns her own home, she  did a letter for us and we sent in the land registry also
Like you we have visited family in the UK many times.
It’s for sure frustrating I hate the lack of transparency with this process.

So on the 12th of February, 2 days ago, we got a email from the query service (the pay one) that they HAD made a decision.

Here is the copy

Thank you for contacting UK Visas and Immigration International Contact Centre.
With regards to your enquiry about the status of your application, I can confirm that we have made a decision on your application. We cannot discuss the outcome of your application on-line or by telephone. However the visa application centre will be in contact with you in regards to collection or delivery of your passport.
We strongly recommend that you do not buy a non-refundable, non-flexible ticket to the UK, until your visa application has been approved and you have received your documents.
Regards,
Nancy
UK Visas and Immigration

But I don't think that is true...from all the experts on here they say they get this info wrong all the time.

Then yesterday, the 13th we got the following email from the query service.

Dear Neil Fortin,
Thank you for the information you have provided.
We escalated your case to the relevant department . You should be contacted regarding your case as soon as possible.
Your patience is highly appreciated.
Regards,
Reema
UK Visas and Immigration

and we did NOT ask for it to be escalated again.

This is getting absurd.

27 years of marriage is a long time...you are a survivor lol!
Considering the information above, your application should be a piece of cake
I am not very happy with us all paying Sheffield to do no work, I'd rather donate the priority fee to people who really need it

LMAO! The UKVI contact centre is on a high dose...I would absolutely not believe them! From my experience i.e. multiple phone calls and emails all paid separately, they are only good to put in an escalation request. I would take the rest with a grain of salt
