Hi there,

Newbie here! I'm a British citizen and married my husband (a U.S. citizen) in 2014 when the law changed to allow same-sex marriages in the UK.

Our story is fairly complicated in that we made some mistakes when we originally got married with my husband marrying on a visitor visa and overstaying.

To cut a long story short (maybe I'll go into this another time!) we both moved to the U.S. a few months after marrying in the UK and have lived here ever since. We both dearly miss the UK. Our family and friends are all there, and life just isn't the same over here.

Late last year we hired a really good, well respected immigration lawyer in the UK to help us prepare our settlement visa application.

Attended biometrics earlier in January, sent the documents to Sheffield, and now we are nervously awaiting the outcome.

I received an email earlier this week from Sheffield asking for more information on the business I run over in the US (they wanted confirmation that i am the sole director of the business). I sent off the confirmation (with corresponding statement of information/articles of incorporation documents to prove it) and am now just waiting to hear back. Is it normal to not receive any type of confirmation email when you email Sheffield back? I want to make sure they received my email.

I'm not sure how to add/edit a signature, so will put our timeline on this post for now:

Hi seantut, welcome!

One of our members recently was asked for the same information three times as it turned out that they had not received it the first two times she had sent it. The third time she did get a confirmation email I believe.

I would probably re-send and ask for confirmation of receipt.

Just wondering - is the email they send back an automated one or is it something they send once they have actually opened the email up and sent it to the ECO?

I'm guessing if its the latter, I won't hear anything back until Monday as its early evening in the UK now.

I think it was automated. It happened to @MrsPoetryMan . Hopefully she'll be along soon to clarify.

Hi...we didn’t get any sort of confirmation email on the request for documents we sent twice, so we contacted MP and they were in contact with someone in the Visa office and gave us another email to send directly to whom ever was working on our app and I immediately got a confirmation back saying they got it.  I hope you get this cleared up , it’s extremely aggravating.

Eek, yes that's very aggravating!

So the implication is that I'm going to have to contact my MP in order to get another email address to send to? I have now sent two emails and have not had any confirmation email back.

Should I just keep sending do you think or shall I try and contact an MP?

It's really too soon to contact your MP about anything unfortunately as you are still well within the service standards.

I don’t remember if everyone else got confirmations back or not.. to me it seems it should be automatic... we were told they office never received any of the documents.
Our MP eventually had to call several times over the last month to finally get an answer on what really happened

Seems like either their system isn't forwarding the emails properly or perhaps they are being marked as 'spam' when some people send in their documents.

Is there any chance you could share the email address you were given where you did get an automated response? I understand if you don't want to, but I just want to make sure my email gets through to Sheffield.

They never received the first two emails I sent Feb 16th or last week with the requested documents they needed to see that didn’t get scanned properly.
