Just putting this out there... when I got my biometrics done, the lady there told me to put the word PRIORITY PROCESSING on the outside of the envelope when I sent everything. She said it helped to make sure they got it didn’t take long to get t on the top of the pile. She said it was a help to the people in New York.
Not sure if it makes any difference or not, but I did it.

It doesn’t just make a difference, it’s a requirement (or at least it used to be).

Not sure if it is still the case, but before the new system, when you still mailed everything to Sheffield, packages were sorted into Priority and Non-priority in the mailroom, before they were even opened.

So, if you did not write SETTLEMENT PRIORITY PROCESSING in ‘very large letters’ (as per VFS Global instructions) on the outermost packaging, your application would be put in the non-priority pile and it could be several weeks before anyone realised it was a priority application... by which point you would have missed out on the faster processing.

I went ahead on Friday and paid to send an email to check on the status of the application. Got this back today:

Quote
Thank you for contacting UK Visas and Immigration International Contact Centre.
With regards to your enquiry about the status of your application, I can confirm that we have made a decision on your application. We cannot discuss the outcome of your application on-line or by telephone. However the visa application centre will be in contact with you in regards to collection or delivery of your passport.
We strongly recommend that you do not buy a non-refundable, non-flexible ticket to the UK, until your visa application has been approved and you have received your documents.
Regards,

UK Visas and Immigration

I'm assuming the decision would have been made last week... in which case, wouldn't I have gotten the decision made email? UPS is showing nothing as yet... Eeek.....

I’d be careful about believing this. The contact centre is known for giving incorrect information. They have told several people in the past that a decision had been made on their application, when in fact their application had not yet been processed... which is why we do not recommend contacting them.

When a decision has been made, you will get an email from UKVI directly - this email is usually sent within a few hours of the decision being made.

We didn't use that exact wording but did put (on multiple places) Priority Paid (or something like that) to ensure they saw we paid for priority.. But we also had issues getting the pdf receipt to open so I had to send a followup email to them once it worked. (also sent it to the Sheffield email for others who were asked to send a copy of the priority receipt). We wanted to cover all basis. Thankfully we have gotten the ECO email already so we are just waiting.

Something just posted in the FB group i'm in by one of the immigration advisors:

just completed a spouse visa application form on the new Access UK website and it definitely is far better than the Visa4UK form. The form is more user friendly and everything is incorporated into the one form meaning you do not have to use the Appendix 2 form

If this is true, it will be nice. Though I can't see anything on the UKVI Site about it. LOL

I'm not seeing a change in the system. The .gov pages still mention completing appendix 2 and link to the visa4UK site.

Interesting :). They were supposed to incorporate Appendix 2 into the online application years ago, but it never seemed to happen.

I just did a Google search and found some information about Access UK. Looks like it’s been around a couple of years, but hasn’t been available for settlement applications:
