Sorry if this has already been answered, but has anyone seen what the process for those of  us entering with a vignette should be like now that they have e-gates?  I saw recently on a thread on here that someone went through to talk to an immigration officer anyway,  but they stated they no longer stamp the vignettes.  ???

I'm wondering the same thing!

There seems to be conflicting information about this. KFDancer posted a screenshot the other day which said that people with visas entering for the first time should NOT use the e-gates, because their visas need to be stamped.

Personally, to be on the safe side, I would NOT go through the e-gates on your first entry, and instead go to an immigration officer at a booth.

I would insist on a stamp. If they refuse, as happened to one of our members recently, I would ask them to provide in writing, the section of the immigration rules that covers this issue as evidence one way or another.

My wife came through on Friday 7th June, she was directed to an e-gate, but instead went to a desk with an officer on after I had told her to get a stamp. The officer looked at the vignette, asked her a few questions about why she was coming to the UK and waved her through. She didn't get a stamp, and was told she didn't need one. Unfortunately she didn't insist on one or ask for confirmation of not needing one, and just accepted the immigration officer's statement.

Still no email regarding whether or not they've received it. I've seen mixed messages, some people get them others don't hear anything until a decision has been made. Considering calling to find out if they've got it..

If your tracking information shows that your package was received then they have it.
The call centre often tells people what they want to hear eg telling them a decision has been made when it turned out that it hadn't been yet. Save your money!

I didn't get an email saying my documents had been received.  I got an email 18 days later saying my application was being prepared for consideration and if I hadn't already sent my documentation I should do so immediately.  I got my "decision made" email about 2 weeks later, which was 22 business days after my documentation was delivered in NY.

I was so worried my documentation hadn't been received, even though I knew from UPS tracking that it had been delivered.  I kept imagining the worst.

Once I learned that not everyone gets the email, I tried to relax and trust the process.  It helped to be able to follow timelines on this website.

The email saying it’s being prepared for consideration is the documentation received email.  :D

The email saying it’s being prepared for consideration is the documentation received email.  :D

Here's an excerpt from the letter:

>>>Thank you for your online application which has been received at the UK Decision Making Centre.  Your application is currently being prepared for consideration by an Entry Clearance Officer.

PLEASE NOTE: This email is to acknowledge receipt of your Settlement application, if you or your UK sponsor have not already submitted your supporting documentation please ensure you follow the process listed below: UKVI is unable to consider your application without these documents.

Your sponsor or an agent can submit supporting documents in the UK at various locations in person for a fee of £75 per application, payable in cash or with a debit card. For these locations please refer to:

https://www.vfsglobal.co.uk/pk/en/news/new-address-for-documentation-when-applying-for-a-uk-settlement-visa<<<

Is this really the documentation received email?  It says "if you or your UK sponsor have not already submitted your supporting documentation please ensure you follow the process listed below: UKVI is unable to consider your application without these documents."

That sentence doesn't seem to provide any assurance that they received the documentation.

Yes, it is the documents received email. It is worded that way because it is the same email for all countries, but each country has a different way of submitting the documents.

- in the US, all the documents are submitted at the same time, in the same package (or uploaded before sending the package), and they go to New York

- in some countries, all the documents are submitted in person at the biometrics appointment

- in other countries, the applicant submits their passport and application at the biometrics appointment and then their sponsor has a certain period of time after that to mail the documents to Sheffield from inside the UK.

So, that email covers all the scenarios. As you applied in the US, you just ignore the ‘if you haven’t sent your documents yet’ part because you have already sent them (and will only receive that email if they already have them).
