Hello everyone,

I’m working on the application for my UK spouse visa.

I’m American and hope to move to the UK in January, together with my British husband and our baby son, who also has UK citizenship. My husband and I currently live in the US and were married here in 2011.

Looking into the application process has unnerved me somewhat! I had a few questions about it and was praying somebody here might be willing to offer me some answers or insights.

1. My husband has hopefully rented a 2-bedroom apartment for us in London, with the tenancy starting in mid-January. Will a copy of the tenancy agreement be sufficient to demonstrate adequate accomodation and should my name be on the tenancy agreement?

2. We meet the income requirements via cash savings in my husband’s UK savings account but that account only produces annual statements. Are annual statements sufficient? Or will my husband need to contact his bank to obtain a letter stating the account’s balance at monthly intervals over a given period of time?

3. I would like to expedite my application if at all posssible. Does anyone know about using the VFS Global Premium Application Centre in New York for what they call the Document Scanning Assisant Service? I don’t find the VFS website tells you that much about how the process works. (It also isn’t altogether clear to me if I’m making a settlement or non-settlement application although I assume non-settlement.)

4. The gov.uk "Family visas" instructions page states that I need copies of any visa or entry stamps in my previous passports. Does this just refer to entry stamps for entry into the UK?

5. Might someone be willing to share a master list for all the documentation that should be submitted for a spouse visa application? People on the forum seem to refer to so many different documents that I'm finding it hard to keep track of everything that's required and am starting to worry about leaving something important out when making my application.

I would be so grateful if anyone is able to offer answers to any of these questions!

Hi Cleo Smith, welcome!  :)

It's best if you start your own thread for your visa questions as they are going to get lost amongst the conversation in this one.

Moving from NYC to a small town in South Wales is going to be Quite a culture shock.
I told my husband the name of our house plaque is going to be Green Acres...Quite appropriate I think (if you get the reference).
This blog has been a godsend...don't feel so alone in this plight.

That will be a big culture shock I'm sure, haha!  Houston to Aberdeen is a bit extreme but nothing like that!  And yes, I get the reference - I used to love a bit of Nick at Night!  Green Acres is a great shout for your new home's name!

That is very exciting REGIT, hopefully good news!!!  What perfect timing to share with your husband at Thanksgiving too!  That was fast indeed; as much as I'm trying not to get my hopes up this has given me a glimmer to think that ours may be coming soon as well, fingers crossed.

Please report back with news of your delivery.

REGIT,

So happy to hear you got the email! I really hope your visa arrives very soon! :)

I have a couple of quick questions:

How many screenshots of messages and phone calls (for proof of contact) did you insert in your supporting docs? I understand this may depend on how long one's relationship has been. Just asking to get an idea!

Thank you!

Everyone should include no more than 2-3 sheets of paper per communication type, regardless of length of relationship.

You just filter your messages so they cover longer or shorter intervals.

For example, you want to include about 60 messages total.

So for a 6-month relationship (24 weeks) that would be 2 or 3 per week.

For a 1-year relationship, you might include 1 per week (54 in total)

For a 2-year relationship, you might do 1 every 2 weeks (54 in total)

For a 10-year relationship, it would be 1 every 2 months (6 per year, 60 in total)

I sent 2 or 3 pages of screenshots but 32 pages of our conversations over a 10 year period.  :-\\\\

If it is any consolation, when we submitted ours first time around we had no clue how much to send, so we ended up sending far, far more - fifty pages or something - than is recommended here, and it all worked out :)

Were we doing it again, we would follow the advice of the board, but I think you'll be fine!

Congratulations to all those who have recently received their successful decisions.

Patiently but nervously awaiting my own.

My timeline as of today stands:

Priority Application made/ paid/ sent:              Nov 5
Biometrics at VFS / Scan documents at VFS: Nov 6
Application received email from Sheffield:       Nov 7
Since then waiting and as of today on 17 WD

Called the visa Uk customer service and they told me your application is awaiting decision. That’s the only information they would give and based on the day of biometrics he told me to expect a decision if all goes without issue by December 18.

Fingers Crossed! Hopefully no issues arise!

Although I don’t know if this will be an issue? Regarding my spouse sponsors income, we applied under Cat A, 6 months of employed permanent job, and I submitted nearly 9 months worth of wage slips, and the income was £19202 for first 7 months but the last 2 months spouse for a raise where it was now £19612.

Bank statements show this change as well. Will that be any issue or is it fine as it’s above the minimum requirement for income?

Priority Settlement: I used the new access gov Uk website to apply.
Application online from USA: November 5, 2019
Biometrics/ documents scanned at VFS NY: November 6, 2019
Email of online application received by Sheffield: November 7, 2019
Email stating “case not straight forward will take more time for decision” received on December 17, 2019.
December 19, 2019: Decision is made email from Sheffield.
December 19, 2019: NY VFS UKVI service center emailed me to come with passport within 5 days.
Decision successful and Visa Approved!!!!!!!!!

They will only consider the lowest salary (lowest payslip) during the 6 months, so as long as your previous salary was over £18,600 (lowest payslip from the last 6 months was at least £1,550 before tax) it shouldn’t be an issue.
