Hang in there JB! Sending you good vibes!!

I know it has only been a day since the last confirmed recipient but I'm growing paranoid having read tales of priority applications not being filed as such.

Would it be worth me sending an email to get confirmation on status or should I just be patient and wait for WD 30?  WD 25 now and totally fed up waiting...
Application for a spouse visa for my USA wife.  She and our one year old daughter remain in Houston whilst I await their arrival in Aberdeen.

I would want to email as well but don't think they will tell you anything till you hit 30WD.
If you don't mind losing the $8 or so, send the email.
I feel your pain...the wait is agonizing...doesn't get any easier when you're waiting for the passport either.

That bit I don't think we'll have to wait for.  My wife elected to keep her passport.  I'm not sure what that means to us in terms of the process.  I see most people here are receiving a decision email, then getting a UPS tracking number.  I guess my wife will just get an email with instructions to go back to VFS Houston to have the visa glued into her passport?

Exactly. She can mail it so she doesn’t have to make the trip on again as well.  She will likely have to make an appointment to go back in as she elected to hold onto her passport but each office does things slightly differently.

You aren’t alone.  Waiting as well.
Have called twice and been told same thing that it is awaiting decision.  Asked them if that means it’s in front the ECO, they said they could not elaborate.
Told me 30 WD would be December 18.

I have also elected to keep my passport. This is traumatic.  My daughters keep asking me “when are you coming” and I just keep saying soon. The wife getting madder and madder by the day as it has been nearly nine years we’ve been married but nine years we haven’t “lived” together in one place.  sigh.
Priority Settlement: I used the new access gov Uk website to apply.
Application online from USA: November 5, 2019
Biometrics/ documents scanned at VFS NY: November 6, 2019
Email of online application received by Sheffield: November 7, 2019
Email stating “case not straight forward will take more time for decision” received on December 17, 2019.
December 19, 2019: Decision is made email from Sheffield.
December 19, 2019: NY VFS UKVI service center emailed me to come with passport within 5 days.
Decision successful and Visa Approved!!!!!!!!!

For info, calling is really not worth the money.

The enquiry centre is just a third party call centre nowhere near Sheffield. They have no physical access to your application. All they can do is type in your application number into their cimputer and read off what it says on the screen. They are notorious for giving incorrect information (like telling someone a decision had been made when their application was still weeks away from even being looked at).

It only takes 1-2 hours for the ECO to make a decision once it's in front of them, so if it was in front of the ECO at the time you called, you would have already received your visa by now. All 'awaiting decision' means is that your application is sitting in line with all the other applications, waiting for someone to get to it... which is what 99% of the processing time is anyway.

The processing time is pretty much as follows (assuming a 30-working day turnaround):
-  Day 1: Application received email
- Days 2-29: Application sitting in line with no one looking at it
- Day 30: Application picked up by ECO. Visa issued. Decision made email sent that day.

Well I went ahead and sent an email...  I don't expect it'll do much and I probably just set fire to another £5 but I feel better somehow!

Apologies for all the whining of late as I understand we're all in the same boat but I miss my wife and baby and I'm totally over the waiting!

My passport finally arrived! My visa was approved!!!! I have from today to the 8th of January to move there. Most of the flights before Christmas are crazy expensive, and I need to give my jobs notice. So I will probably fly out on the 30th of December.  :)

By the way, we were never able to get a letter from the housing council giving me permission to live there. My husband wrote a letter (giving his housing officer's name and phone number and stating that I am allowed to live there) and got a housing inspection report. We also included a copy of the tenancy agreement and a council tax bill. So if anyone else has a problem getting a letter from their housing council, it is still possible to be approved without one.

JBinAberdeen and MiseryofLongDistance, fingers crossed that you will both hear something soon.

Congratulations so much. Really happy for you.

Oh the wait is agonizing, keep waking up here in New York checking emails updating them but nothing.

Even though I paid for priority, I never wrote it on the application anywhere since everything was being scanned at then VFS NY location. All she told me was that put the VFS paid and UKVI Settlement priority receipts on top and that’s it.
The wait and mystery is killer

I take it this is the standard response?:

"Dear ,

Thank you for contacting UK Visas and Immigration International Contact Centre.

With regards to your enquiry about the status of your application, I can confirm that your application is being considered and is currently awaiting a decision.

If it has been over 15 working days for non- settlement applications or 60 working days for settlement applications, please provide the following details:

Full Name
Date of Birth
GWF number
IHS number
Passport number
Place of submission
Type of Visa applied for
Date of biometrics
Nationality
E-mail address used on application:

We strongly recommend that you do not buy a non-refundable, non-flexible ticket to the UK, until your visa application has been approved and you have received your documents.

Regards,

Diana
UK Visas and Immigration

Not worth the £5 really.  I can't say I wasn't warned though...
