Arrrrgh!  Hamster Sing-Sing arrived with two broken wheels and the corner of the base broken. The corner would make it impossible to secure the wire cage. So much for "used, like new condition" from Amazon Warehouse.

Phoned Amazon, who said that since it was an Amazon Warehouse item they could not replace it, only refund it. So it's going back tomorrow. We've had a lot more problems with things being broken, incorrect, or mis-delivered from Amazon here in Glasgow than we ever did in the States.... and, unlike in the States, we have never gotten one "we're sorry, here's a small credit on your account to make up for the aggravation". Those little credits go a long way to smoothing ruffled feathers.

Anyway, we were in a thrift store (excuse me... Charity Shoppe) the other day and there was a big cage there for 20 pounds. Not as fancy as Sing-Sing, but serviceable.  We had already ordered Sing-Sing, and just kind of made a mental note that it was there. Since the one that arrived today (and was unceremoniously dumped on our doorstep with Hermes saying they'd "left it through the letter box"- which would have been a neat trick, given the size of the box) I phoned the charity shop, the cage was still there, and they held it for me.  I walked up there and bought it. Fought it all the way home (it was already assembled), with several comments from old guys passing asking how fancy a budgie did I have, really?  (Oh, so funny while the wires were cutting into my fingers!)  It is now in the bathtub in hot water and bleach.  Soon it shall become the hamster's Barlinne, and he's not getting a pass to leave at Christmas, either.

Happy ending for Thor, Happy Ending for Me, and what the hell is it about customer service here, anyway?  ::) :(

My interactions with Amazon have been pretty awesome, but I haven't tried ordering anything more than £10 at a time. Haha.
I've had two complete refunds and told to keep the item. Which is awesome.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Two years ago I bought a camera for my wife and just recently the shutter button fell off.  Not a cheap camera either.  10 minutes on the phone with Amazon and they have promised a complete refund.

Must be nice for both of you! Hope your string of luck lasts! Looking at my Amazon orders since we arrived, approximately 51 orders, somewhere between 1/4th to 1/3rd have had some kind of problem - usually with mis-delivery (or non-delivery), but we've had the wrong colors of things sent, the wrong sizes, items that didn't match the descriptions, the wrong item outright once, and items that were broken right out of the box.

The most annoying bits are the delivery issues.  As example, in the most recent order, I was given a tracking number that didn't work. I used chat and was assured the item was coming on Wednesday, and that they would double-check the status and email me later that day to confirm. No email arrived, and the box showed up on Tuesday afternoon - when I was not home, because I arranged to be home on Wednesday. The courier left it on the doorstep, with the notation online that they'd put it through the letterbox. EEEK! Thankfully I came home soon thereafter and it didn't get stolen.  Other times they have "delivered" items "to a neighbor" and not bothered to leave notes as to where they've left it. I've ended up having to phone Amazon to get to the carrier to find out that much. (I pay per call and by the minute, so it's doubly-annoying.)  There are only about a dozen flats in this building, and more than once after knocking on all the other doors, nobody has had any packages for us. So, either I have a klepto neighbor or a really incompetent delivery guy. I suspect the latter. When I've complained to Amazon that we have an ongoing problem with a particular delivery service, they say there's nothing they can do. When I suggest they send orders via ANY other carrier, they "make a note of it" and then use the same carrier.

I'm just tired of the incompetence - sorry, rant here, but I've been sold items at local stores and then waited for delivery, only to find that the item was discontinued and, oh, sorry, we'll refund your money. (After sitting at home all day waiting for the delivery, and then having to do the legwork of phoning around to find out where the hell it was.)  Ikea, though I still buy from them because I like their price-point and products, has been really bad about not delivering items we paid to have delivered, items delivered damaged, not having items in stock that we checked on before taking three buses over there to buy, etc., etc.  All blown off with a half-arsed "oh, I'm sorry" by someone who obviously isn't.

Arrrgh~!  I wish they'd just do what they say they're going to do, when they say they're going to do it, and that'd be the end of it.
