First, I'm so sad that you had a delicious-but-unpleasant first attempt at eggnog! I recommend this recipe (even if it does sound scary with the uncooked eggs):

We get two servings out of half a batch, so that suggests we'd get 4 for a whole recipe. They lie. Oh. Dark rum, not bourbon. Definitely rum.
Second, our "eggnog jug" -- the one I was so worried about receiving in time to use at the weekend -- didn't get filled with eggnog after all. We made another half-batch of eggnog, chilled it for a bit, and then drank it down. Instead, the jug was filled with homemade margarita for Mexican Platter night. We had a good weekend.
