You can also go see the ceremony of the keys at night which I've always wanted to do.

The ceremony is pretty cool.  ;) Somehow I was able to request tickets to the Ceremony of the Keys through my MP (I think) and they slotted us in even though it was fully booked. I can't remember how I did it, though.

You can also request free tickets to a tour of the Houses of Parliament through your MP:
https://www.parliament.uk/visiting/visiting-and-tours/tours-of-parliament/tours/

I got tickets to both the Changing of the Keys and a tour of the House of Lords as a non-UKC. Changing of the Keys was just me and UKC DH. Tour of House of Lords was me, UKC DH and USC parents and USC brother & SIL. Citizenships were no issues. Only residency of the person requesting the tickets mattered.

I'd suggest the Sky Garden.  It's free and relaxing but you should reserve a time slot now.

I wanted to do the Sky Garden but thought you had to pay! Didn't realise it was free to reserve a time slot! :) Definitely good to know for next time.

Really curious about the "changing of the keys" thing being mentioned...

The Beefeaters do an elaborate ceremony every night about 10 pm when they lock up the Tower.  Civilians can watch but you've got to reserve in advance.

We did a tour of the roof of Hampton Court Palace, which was pretty cool.

Maybe you guys could take the train to Brighton for a day just to break things up a bit.  The pier and the Pavilion are fun.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I'll have to get with my friend and see what she's interested in. She's leaving on Saturday so we don't have much time to chat til she's here. I'll have to see if we can do any of these. Haha.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

hahaha I had a sneaking suspicion that trying to pitch hanging out with me and my derp dog PROBABBLLLYYY wouldn't make the cut :p

Definitely eat aaaalllllll the food while you're there though! There are So many good places to eat, it's almost overwhelming! That and cake/sweet shops! They've just put a Doughnut Time in London that I've been itching to go to because I love a good doughnut! (originally based in Austrailia. Look them up on instagram! They make some amazing looking ones!!)

Hope you and your friend have an amazing time :)

OMG... we saw Hamilton in December. I haven't enjoyed a musical in a long time and it definitely broke the streak!

You could do the afternoon tea tour on an old routemaster... a number of boxes ticked there :)

My partner isn’t either...he didn’t really clap and said he wanted to yell “God save the king” at one point . However he did say there were some very powerful moments in it and he is more interested in Alexander Hamilton now.

My husband isn’t big into musicals either but he LOVED Book of Mormon. Highly recommended if you don’t mind rude language lol (or taking the piss out of religion).

Oh, I forgot about Book of Mormon!  I wanted to see that so badly when it first opened!  I still do, now that I'm reminded of it.  I'm curious to see Hamilton, too, given its rave reviews.  I don't know of anybody who didn't like it (except VP Pence?).

Lol yeah that's another good one! My husband is quite alright with all those things ;) he's a regular Richard herring podcast attendee until we move, to give an idea of his sense of humour!
