Hot Links!
« on: January 16, 2018, 01:33:11 PM »
On visiting the deli counter at Asda today, I happened to ask if they have hot links ... never heard of them was the reply, does anyone know where we might be able to get hot link sausages in the UK - preferably around Hampshire? Or perhaps something similar? They are one of his favorite foods in America and cannot find then anywhere here :( maybe someone here has found something close to it?

Hi Monica - sorry for the probably stupid question, but what are hot links? I'm assuming they aren't just regular sausages. Is this a particular brand of sausage or is it a sausage made in a particular way?

I don't, but if you find them, please please let me know.  I have yet to find the right kind of spicy, juicy sausage here.  I miss it.  When we get a smoker, I am going to try sausage-making, I think.

I don't need any more inducements!  I'm already sold... and it's not just because of your proximity to Taco Bell.  *assure*  I mean, that is a factor, but I promise it's not the only one!  We will all get together.

They're the US-style spicy sausages, usually quite juicy with a firm-ish casing which "bursts" (in a good way!) when you bite into it.  Authentic (not mass-produced supermarket brands) ones will be red and linked together.  But most processed meat companies in the US have a version... Hillshire Farms, Johnsonville, etc.... they typically aren't as spicy, but they would do it for me.  Basically, I would go for pretty much anything on this search result right about now.

Yup.  You should grace their doors.  Four types of provolone!

Hey Monica, have you investigated your local Polish grocery store?  They've got the widest selection of bizarre sausages and bacon so maybe they'll have something close to what you are looking for.  If not, pick up some klobassa for the grill and smother it with hot mustard.

hah weirdly enough, I feel like every time we've had trouble finding American equivalents to food over here in the UK, we always end up finding them in a Polish shop (for example, see the Egg Noodle chat!)

Might finally force myself to take a trip there on Saturday. You said they do sandwiches right? It's not just a deli, if I remember correctly.

Do you know where a local Polish shop is?

It's a proper little Italian shop.  Loads of types of pasta (though no big pasta shells... boo).  They used to have a fantastic gluten free selection but it's quite small now.  Yes, they do sandwiches but as they are made to order... it can take little bit of time.  Same with pizzas.  Definitely some gems to be had though.

I went to the tip at lunch and waved at your building as I drove by.   :)

Ooh. I am picking your brain once we move. And here I was all excited to have both Sainsbury's and Starbucks walking distance. (as long as we get approved!) Proper cured meat is one of my favorite snacks.

I didn't know there were types of provolone!  I thought there was just provolone.  And it's great melted on a steak sandwich with some tomato wedges, lettuce, and mayo.  *wistful sigh*  I need to stop reading this thread.  I miss junk food!  X
