I've seen people in London with really clever scooter-specific rainwear. Like, ponchos that are split in the front to cover your legs and have little hand covers at the end of the sleeves as well.
On s'envolera du même quai
Les yeux dans les mêmes reflets,
Pour cette vie et celle d'après
Tu seras mon unique projet.

Je t'aimais, je t'aime, et je t'aimerai.

How about Paris?  They've got all kinds of giant windscreens and stuff.

Socalstef - I don't have anything helpful to add, just know that you are not alone.  I am about to move to semi-rural Northern Ireland and the whole car/job thing gives me anxiety.  I would like to go back to education but I don't think we can afford it right now.  I was just there for 5 months on a visitor visa with no job/car for me (obviously) so I know what's like!  If you ever need a friend in the future who understands feel free to message me! :)

Cannot agree more that wheels make things more bearable. Plus, I found the process of taking lessons and getting the license really gave me confidence. Heck DH even admitted I knew more about driving than he did!  ;D  I literally posted CVs days after passing my test and had a contract gig in a couple weeks. There is definitely a place for qualified workers, so don't give up.

I moved here from Redondo Beach BTW, so I can relate to much of what you are missing.
I found,  before I was employed, that sometimes just getting away from the house really perked me up and got me focused. Hop that bus some morning with your laptop/tablet, get yourself to a nice cafe where you can chill, focus on job searches, looking for volunteer activities, posting on UKY  ;)

I'm sensing a need for a Tex Mex night sometime. Anyone near east mids that would be in?

What area of biology are you most interested in? Have you thought about seeing if you could work in a veterinarian office? Diagnostic lab?
