Anyone used IcelandAir for Large Dog?
« on: February 08, 2018, 07:17:26 PM »
Researching affordable flights that offer pet travel, and I came across IcelandAir.

My plan is to fly into france to avoid UK airport's ridiculous fees regarding cargo animals, and just drive my boy up to london.  He's large, so he'll have to go into the cargo either way, but flying into france saves at least $600 right off the bat.

According to Icelandair's website, the fee for having a dog in cargo on international flights is 137 GDP.

Has anyone either used them, or know of any good/bad reviews about their dog cargo transport services?

I know a lot about the drive from Paris to London as I do it frequently.  Are you planning on renting a car?

One option would be for you to fly with your dog to Paris and then take a local train to Calais.  Your friend could meet you at that train station.  The difference would be that Calais train station is just at the entrance to the tunnel and is super easy to drive to and park. Driving to Paris airport will be a long trip and involve driving in Paris which can frighten some British people.

Just an option if your driving friend is a bit nervous.

If you purchase a tunnel ticket, tell your friend to use her Tesco loyalty points and the crossing could be free

Ok, I found a decent priced flight ($600 + $170 for my dog to fly with checked luggage) with Icelandair around the time I'd like to return (hopefully, if i get my visa).

June 3
Portland, OR - Reykjavík, Iceland (7.5 hours)
1 hour 25min layover
Reykjavík, Iceland - Paris, France (3.25 hours)

does this seem like an appropriate flight for bringing my dog?
how are dog's in luggage hold handled during layovers/flight changes?

Give Iceland air a call and ask.

Do NOT book any tickets until you have your visa in hand.  :)
