Do your cats go outside?  If not, you could give Soft Paws a try.
Mine is an inside only cat. His scratching the mattress is his reminder to me to trim his nails. It's the only time he does it, when I let them get too long.

He's probably the most well behaved cat I've ever had. He didn't even bother the Christmas tree!!

I don't like the idea of Soft Paws, because they can't retract their claws with them on. It just looks uncomfortable. We're getting their claws trimmed at the vet next week, and I'm going to try to keep them trimmed, though I haven't been able to find a good claw clipper for cats--the only ones I've seen are for dogs, and they're huge!

My cats have multiple scratching posts and they're not very destructive generally, (though they do like to scratch my new desk chair) so I'm hoping that the leather just won't appeal to them.

Ooo, that does sound uncomfortable!!  I didn't realise they couldn't bring their claws back in.

I suspect they'll be happy with the desk chair as their scratching post.  :)

The pair of clippers I brought with me from the US was getting blunt so I have just replaced them with these, and they are excellent.

They are actually cuticle nippers (ignore the title of the listing which says giant toenail clippers, this is wrong!) but they are just the right size for a cats claws, very sharp and you can be much more precise than with those that are meant for the purpose!

We have leather sofas and none of our herd have scratched them.  I have a blanket which I put on a bit of the sofa and they lie on that - so when I put the blanket out they know that is for them.

I do keep their nails trimmed. I use a pair of human nail clippers.

What is Soft Paws?  I will look it up.

My previous post wasn’t published somehow.... my husband has already 3 cats (no breed) and we decided to have another kitten, so he’ll be with me while I am in France

I have never been a cat person before meeting my husband, but now I think I turned into cat lady for life for sure :))

Oh my Goodness! That teeny baby kitty is so cute, Katie_France! I showed the photo to my daughter and now she's making high pitched noises in delight.
