I went to my appointment today for NCS checking and passport. For some reason I was nervous but the lady was very nice. She said they do take the original Life in the UK certificate. You only get it back if you don't get citizenship. And they keep it if you do, because you won't need it ever again she said!

It's definitely a relief getting this far, now just biometrics again and ceremony and hopefully end result British Passport!

Although in the car I felt absolute panic about actually living here the rest of my life.  :o

Ahh, glad it went well!  :) And thanks for letting me know about the certificate, I am happy we're not alone!  :)

And don't worry, once you have citizenship, you can leave if you want to, you are not committed to staying here.  :)

Yay!  Last hurdle done!  Now you just wait for your ceremony and you're a dual citizen!  And that means you've increased your options, not restricted yourself to living here forever.  You'll have two countries, and all of the rights and privileges (and responsibilities) that that entails.

Oh. Speaking of which, the US had (has?) a travel embargo to Cuba, for example.  As a US/UK dual national, would we be allowed to travel to Cuba on a British passport?  Not that I intend to go to Cuba.  I was just wondering how that sort of thing works for dual nationals.
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

I believe that as long as you use your British passport and not your US passport, you will be fine.  That's one of the benefits of holding dual-citizenship... you can use your British passport to travel to countries that US citizens can't enter, or that they require a visa for.

When I was travelling in South America, my roommate in the tour group was a dual-US/UK citizen... and since US citizens require visas to for Bolivia and Brazil, she just used her UK passport to enter those countries, because UK citizens don't need a visa.

Very cool.  So dual nationality gives us access to all the places that citizens of both countries have access to.  I'll probably never use that, but it's good to know.

It's been a month and the money hasn't even been taken from my account? Should I panic at this point that something happened with my credit card and it was denied? The money wasn't put in until a few days after my appointment. They couldn't have mailed it and processed it that quickly could they? Did anyone do the NCS appointment and how long after did they take the money out?

I would call your bank and have them check, they will be able to see if an attempt was made to pull the money.

Our NCS appointment was March 21st and the money debited on April 5th.

Whereas my appointment was Sept 25th and they took the money on the 27th (If my memory serves me correctly).

I agree with Larabee to call your bank and see if it was attempted.  If it was, they are likely mailing you a letter that is just taking it's sweet time to arrive.

Did you get the tracking information from the NCS people, do you have proof that the package arrived?

I would give the NCS office you used a call.  When I had my appointment, they said it would take about two months before the money was debited and I received the biometrics letter.  So it was definitely a surprise when the money was gone two DAYS later!  Hopefully they can tell you what the current wait times are.

I called the NCS office a few days ago but the lady who did my appointment was out on holiday. Today she was back at work and kindly called me first thing. She said that a lot of people were trying to get their forms in before the April 6 usual fee rise and that's why it's probably taking so long. But they do get a tracking number and you can request it from the NCS after your appointment. It did arrive and luckily today I also received an email from the Home office that the application was received. So now just waiting to see when they'll debit and send biometrics! Sooo soo close to the end :) Thanks for your supportive replies!

Praise God went to my citizenship ceremony and just came back from the post office after sending my cut up biometric card. Hopefully my passport's coming soon! So happy to be done with this stressful, difficult journey. Thank you to everyone on this board for their help from the very first day after getting engaged 6 years ago. Cheers ;)
