Another question I have is about the biometrics, like what should I expect? And when should I send my application after my biometrics appointment?

Biometrics is really simple - no more than 5-10 minutes. They are taken by US immigration on behalf of UKVI.

You just take your passport and your printed appointment confirmation. They will check your ID, stamp the confirmation, take your fingerprints and photo and send you home.

You then place your passport and stamped biometrics confirmation with your documents and mail them to Sheffield within 5 days.

Also if I do get accepted, do you have to go to the UK embassy in America to get a your vignette? Or is it in your passport when it’s sent back to you from Sheffield? And do I need to do anything after I’ve arrived in England?

You mail your passport and documents to Sheffield in the UK, wait for the visa to be processed, and then they will be mailed back to you in the US. You cannot go to an embassy in the US... applications are processed by mail in the UK.

They will have placed a 30-day visa vignette sticker in your passport, which you use to enter the UK.

Once you are in the UK, you will have 10 days within which to pick up your BRP card - which will be your actual visa - from a designated local Post Office.

See here for more information about applying in the US:

On gov.uk website for documents you need to provide if applying outside the UK, it asks for parents birth date and nationality.
So should I write a letter stating this or show birth certificates? My mother is from Puerto Rico so she’s a US citizen, and my father is from Ecuador.

It also says to give details of:
Countries outside the UK I visited and lived in.
Which I’ve only lived in the US, but I’ve visited many countries in Europe with my husband. I’ve also visited Ecuador once when I was really young and it shows in my old passport.

Family and friends in countries you were born or have nationality.
Again I’m a US citizen, so do I just write about my family and friends in America and Puerto Rico?

Sorry if these seem like basic, pretty self explanatory questions. I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything.

There is a place in the application, just fill in the details of your parents, no evidence required.

You should give details of all of your trips to the best of your recollection. Just make a note in the any other information section if you are not sure of any of the details.

Family and friends in countries you were born or have nationality.

You can keep it brief, no need to name names but you should mention for the US and PR too if you were born there

Thank you so much!

Unfortunately I do have another question, do any certain document copies need to be certified? Like copies of the passport, or marriage certificate? Etc

The documents you send as evidence should be original or a certified copy.
The photocopies of your original evidence can just be regular copies.

The marriage certificate you send should be original and send an additional photocopy for them to keep.

You send your original passport and previous passports with regular copies.

Your partner can provide a copy of their passport rather than the original, this should ideally be a certified copy. Then it's up to you if you send a copy of the certified copy or not.

Not sure if that is clear or not but when you finish, you're going to have one pile of original documents, and one pile of regular photocopies of those original documents.
Some of the original documents may be certified copies, eg your partners passport.

I’m kinda confused on how to get a certified copy of a passport. I was just going to have photocopies of his passport picture page and stamped pages.

Honestly, that will be fine.

Certifying is what we call it in the UK.  It would just be a notary in the USA (someone saying they've seen the original and that it's a true copy).

You ONLY need a copy of the photo page of his UK passport. It can just be a photocopy but if you want it certified, it can be done at a UK Post Office for about £10.

The stamped pages are not needed and won’t be looked at.

So my husband and I are starting to get call logs, text messages, etc for our evidence of relationship. The thing is we used to text through Kik and call through Viber around the first year of our relationship, but we then started texting and calling without using the apps so we deleted them. Now we don’t have much proof of us talking around the year we met. And with some of the proof we do have to show we used those apps they aren’t dated. So I just don’t know what to do and is it gonna be a major problem?
