TAKING ALCOHOL OUT OF THE USA AND INTO THE UK

Hi all - no big issue here really, but my wife has been given a couple of bottles of spirits as leaving gifts, and as we only have a week left here I was wondering what the laws were re taking it out of the US and declaring it in the UK? We're talking a couple of bottles max

Thanks

Pack it well, so it doesn't smash in your bag and wheel it on through.  You only need to declare large quantities.   ;D

Maybe take what you can within the allowance and drink the rest!  ;)

USA PRESCRIPTIONS - CAN THEY BE FILLED IN THE UK?

My wife has some skin prescriptions which she's in two minds about paying for in the USA, and also if she did get them does a UK pharmacy accept them?

Thanks
Make sure they are also on the UK formulary for whatever condition she has, and that she brings a note showing that they are the ones that work for her. She'll want any adverse reactions in medical notes.

I learned the hard way that just because the things I've been taking for pain and muscle spasms are available here, they aren't listed for my conditions, and it will be months and potentially paying £££ to see doctors privately before I can get them back. A clear note from her doctor will go a long way towards helping her get set up with everything she needs here (including dermatology referrals if that's part of what is needed).

She will just need to show her BRP when she registers with a GP as proof of having paid. After that it will be in the system and she won't need to worry about it again.

When she registers with a GP, she will need to show her passport, BRP card and proof of U.K. address.

Her BRP will indicate/prove that she has paid the IHS surcharge.

So the BRP is the visa, or something else?

It’s the visa (resident permit).

Biometric residence permit. It's her visa, yes and she'll pick it up from the nominated post office once she arrives.

VOTERS REGISTER

Hi all, just wondering if I need to add my wife to this form before returning? It only says to add anyone 'who is eligible to vote', although I obviously want to make sure she's reg'd for council tax (which might be a different form again)

Thanks all (great site new look!)

She is not eligible to vote, so she cannot be added to the voter’s register/electoral roll. She needs to be a UK citizen in order to be added.

Not sure what you mean about registered for council tax - you just call the council and add her to your council tax account.

Not unless she's a commonwealth citizen. If she's also Canadian (for example), she should be added to the voters register.

TIMINGS FOR NEXT STEPS

Assuming our future lies in the UK, when should I begin looking at the next visa phase following the initial 33 months? Any particular evidence i should start making a file for?

Thanks
