Bleeding gums
« on: December 09, 2004, 10:38:02 AM »
Ow, they hurt! Coming on the heels of that stomach bug, I've now got bleeding gums, which I didn't have during my first pregnancy (thankfully). And they hurt, and compound the fear of eating that the stomach bug created. I am rinsing with mouthwash like a maniac and brushing often, as well as drinking OJ for the vitamin C. Is there anything you can do to make it possible to eat without the food cutting/hurting your gums? Do they eventually get better? Or am I stuck with them for the rest of the pregnancy? I am making an appointment for the dentist but as I don't expect it will be for another three weeks any suggestions are gratefully needed.

first off stop brushing em anymore than you usually do... rinse with warm salted water...that should help... the mouthwash can be a bad idea... it can actually make things worse... and calm down.... not doing yourself or the baby any good freaking about it...  jo
It's the difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

Lipstick? Where woman? There is no lipstick!
She wasn't kissing your lips my darling

What's it gonna be Merv?
Interesting deal
She'll do it. If she has to kill everyone in this room. She'll do it. She's in love.
*sigh*
It's amazing how the path of love is so alike to the path of insanity

Dude - I was bleeding gums mcMurphy during my pregnancy! It got a little better towards the end, but once I Gave birth it stopped altogether. My midwife told me that is why the NHS gives pregnant ladies free dental care since so many women would lose teeth etc while pregnant! I was taking my multi-vitamin and eating well enough... and beyond that she told me there was little I could do.
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

Eat some chocolate. It might not help the gums but it will make you feel better! :)

Its very normal. You only have to endure it for about...hmm....9 months?
Make sure you get to the dentist while you are pregnant as well as afterwards. I had to have tons of dental work done after Coby was born but it was more from neglect than from pregnancy.
How many months preg are you? In the beginning I could barely brush my teeth because the morning sickness was so bad.  :P
