When to apply for the spouse visa?

Hello all! I hope your Monday isn’t very Monday-ish at all

My fiancé and I are planning to submit our spouse visa application/documents to Sheffield the day after our wedding. We can’t stand to be apart and this seems like the natural thing to do as we have the documentation, application, and paperwork already in order.

Is this a normal thing to do, or would it be better (for the success of our visa application) if we waited a few weeks or a month to apply for the spouse visa?

Send away!  UKVI do not care how long you've been married.  Just that you can tick the boxes for the visa requirements. 

As long as you have everything ready to go, with all the documents in your hands, you can submit it the day after the wedding .

I know I advised not to do it on the day of the wedding, but that was really because I didn't want you to end up rushing it in the excitement and accidentally missing something important.

Did you find out when you will receive the official marriage certificate? That's going to be the main thing that decides when you can submit it, because I would wait until you have it in your hands before submitting.

Bear in mind also, that going into the summer, processing times aren't all that quick, even with priority (probably about 2 months), so, really I don't think waiting a day or two after the wedding is going to make much difference in terms of how quickly you can be together again.

It's best not to rush things, and instead apply when you're completely ready (and only you will know when that is), rather than set a specific date that you want to apply on .

Just to add to what ksand has said...

When you look back on the day of, and the days following the wedding, how do you want to remember those days?  Stressed about the application?  Or enjoying being married?

There is no right or wrong answer.  It may be that you are leaving for your honeymoon 3 days after the wedding and want to know the application is in process.  Just know this is your special day(s) and to spend them how you want to reflect back on them.

We’re aware the expedited service may take a little longer than usual in the summer, but we’ve got a fun honeymoon that’s lasting the entire month of June so that’s a great way to pass the time! We’ve already started the application on visa4uk and most of the documents are ready feels good to get the ball rolling on this stuff. We’re both very type A when it comes to this, which is the only way to be in my opinion. That said, we’ll send the application the day after the wedding if y’all say it’s fine!!
