Asphalt and Potholes
« on: April 05, 2018, 01:58:39 PM »
Seriously what is up with the asphalt in this country?  It is CRAP!

We've had a lot of rain, so my commute to work is now like a real life video game of dodging HUGE potholes.

If we get snow we get pot holes.  If we get rain we get pot holes.  If we get a heatwave the asphalt melts.  AAGGGGHHHHH

I am not going to be a happy bunny when I pop a tire.

My life. I was listening to the radio and they said the council is paying out an average of £250 to people who make damage claims in Cambridgeshire. I don’t know how many people make claims or how hard it is to prove you have damage, but you’d think they’d just find a solution instead of people getting paid our for damage.

Yeah, surely it would be easier just to fill in the holes?

But that would involve using common sense and that doesn’t ever seem to happen in the UK any more!

I think it's not so much a lack of common sense as of basic problem solving skills and the incentive to take a proactive approach. People just seem to shrug and say "well, that's how it's always been" instead of making an effort to improve anything.

I'll give the local councils a little break on this topic.....I'm sure they are well aware of people complaining about the holes. It likely just comes down to money as usual. Now...are the council spending the money on what I want them to....hmmmm. They are about as bad as I can remember this year. On a trip out to the recycling a couple of days ago I was driving about half the speed limit on the way out because I just couldn't avoid all the holes without driving on the other side of the road all of the time.

I feel like they must be using subpar materials.  The roads are so bad!

Doesn’t help that the utility companies are CONSTANTLY digging holes that are then patched.

My local council has just spent a huge sum of money cutting down tons of old trees and destroying the town centres green space to turn it into an Aldi, Premier Inn, and boutique cinema.   ::)  I’m not impressed...

I don’t think a single resident thought it was a good idea!

That’s terrible. I think I vaguely remember you talking about it elsewhere. I’m sure your city isn’t that deprived of shops etc that they had to do this.

In one of shopping areas, they’ve recently rebuilt a costa, which is super nice. Then half a mile down the street they’ve built a drive through  costa and a Starbucks accredits the street that ripped up a nice green area. Why?

Pretty simple I would think.......to make money. Councils are desperate for money. People expect them to provide services......but they need money to do so. Catch-22.
