40th Birthday Ideas!
« on: April 06, 2018, 02:29:59 PM »
You guys never let me down.

The husband's big 4-oh is next month.  We are going away for his birthday.

I'd like to give him something very thoughtful (but not a big cost).  This is where I need help.  Any creative ideas?  I guess I'm thinking 40 date night ideas (most of which could be done at home without a babysitter) or that kind of thing.

Another thought is a memorable experience.  I'd love to do a hot air balloon but I've heard they are really frustrating in real life (have to call at 11pm the night before for a 5am arrival time), so would be tough to sort childcare.

I think I'm going to recruit some friends to "flock the yard" with flamingos for our return from our holiday.   ;D

But looking for some ideas to just be the cherry on top!  Though I could probably get away with no truly getting him a gift.

I've been thinking a lot about this, myself, as my husband's 40th is in June (right after our 5 year anniversary!).  I keep thinking of half-ideas but not really getting it all put together.  I don't know!  *wail*  40th birthday plus 5th wedding anniversary, and being free from immigration control (though, we'll actually do that last about 4 weeks previous).  So much to celebrate.

*Joins KF's appeal*  Help us!

A friend is doing "40 things she's never done" in her 40th year.  Which is a great idea.

I am thinking I'll steal it and do "40 things I've wanted to do" in my 40th year.

Maybe I can take it one step further and make it "40 things for us to do between now and when KF turns 40"?  And keep some ideas blank for him.  Or keep them all blank and come up with them together while sitting in the jacuzzi drinking adult beverages while on holiday?

I think you should have at least half of the 40 filled in... That way his gift isn't just "work" rather than reward.

Hmm... my husband and I already know what 40 things we want to do:

1. Fix house.
2. Fix house.
3. Fix house...

You can see where this is going.  No, I think I'm going to have to actually come up with something.  And for 5th and 40th, it's gonna have to be good (I'm not getting him separate gifts... it's too hard to think of one thing, much less two!).

Do you do the traditional gifts?  If so, it's wood this year.  Do the jenga thing!

I would skip the hot air balloon ride as it's all a big scam here.  The weather is rarely good for it and they rely on people getting tired of booking and rebooking and finally giving up.

Alternatives might be glider lessons or an initial flight lesson.  Or kitesurf lessons at camber Sands.

They do something cool at Brooklands, the historic race track near Weybridge.  I believe it's a variety of Mercedes track days or even 4 wd training.

Or you can buy him a kite....
