My husband (and sadly, my child) pronounce "tu" as choo.  So they eat choona (tuna) or go somewhere on chooseday (tuesday).   ::)

Having spent more than half my life here now, I also pronounce 'tu' that way.  I heard Sheldon on Big Bang Theory say 'You Toob' instead of YouTube the other day and it sounded so weird and wrong!

Some day I'm going to do one of those articles where you make 30 freezer meals for a family of 4 with 4 Costco chickens.  Just need to find the time (and enthusiasm).

Oh!  We did something similar years ago here on UKY!  I'll see if I can dig up the thread!

This thread made me laugh quite a bit! Tonight we were watching an old Pointless and they had flags. I said "I wonder what Haiti's flag is"... It took multiple back and forths and spelling the word because my husband was convinced I was saying "Hades". *pulls out hair* Dialects and accents keep relationships interesting!

Hi,

Been a member of Costco for as long as I can remember ! Prior to that, upon one of my many USA visits during university years, I remember going into one in NYC and thinking wow!

I'm under the impression that if you are a member, it allows you entry into any Costco location/warehouse including international ones. I have a Trade membership setup here in the UK and I've been in warehouses in Vegas and LA in recent years.

I've not paid attention to the other ways of membership now but looking here on the UK site;

https://www.costco.co.uk/membership

It's only the 'online only' version which doesn't have a tick for 'Valid at All locations'.

Perhaps give them a call or drop in a support email to confirm.

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!

As a Costco member, you can definitely use your membership card at any warehouse worldwide.

My husband says things that are supposedly pronounced with subtle differences...So subtle that they legit sound like the same word. And when he says the word "pawn" I think he's getting mega rude with me. LOL

So you call wraps tubes then? haha

The fact that people pronounce bra that was upsets me greatly...WHY?!
We watch "Porn Stars" instead of Pawn Stars. It shocks me every time I hear it.

Oh, it exists!!!

My daughter was recently saying she needs a "willy hat".  Took awhile but finally realized she meant "wooly hat."  I told them the translation at nursery in advance in case she told them that Mommy was going to get her a willy hat.   ::)

Oh, see, cuz I work in tech my husband has done a good job of trying to teach me UK pronunciation for common words that are different in the US. He definitely admits to the r. Is your husband from the South? I'm guessing in other areas it may be less prominent.

hahahaha same!

Also, after all this yesterday, last night over dinner my husband and I were chatting how he says certain things that are exactly the same and refuses to believe it. We were chatting about a trip to Poland we're taking later this year that we're having to re-jig because of a whole fiasco. We were talking about history and stuff and I was telling him how it irritates me that he says "jew" and Dew" the same. I know they are spelled the same but I would pronounce "dew" like "DOO", with a hard d (::insert totally mature joke here). But he says dew like Djew (if you can try to figure out how I'm saying it because I can't for the life of me figure out how to spell it!).

That and my SIL who's name is Sian he has told me off for mispronouncing it to make it sound like Sean, a male friend of ours. I was like......they sound the same I can't help it! He then proceeded to say they DON'T sound the same and said "Listen! Sean. SEAN." I was like...THEY ARE THE SAME!
