Teacher background checks?

Can anyone tell me the form I have to fill in to have my criminal background check for teaching? I would love to get this all squared away ASAP! Would my US clearances help?

It's called a DBS check, but I think your employer will run one for you if you get the job. Having your own wouldn't hurt, but it's not going to tip the scales for whether you get a job or not :). US clearances are completely irrelevant.

That said, if you haven't been in the UK long, it makes employers feel a bit easier if you have foreign checks. I had to get a simple letter from my local sherriff's office in the US to show I didn't have a criminal record. I think some employers might have different requirements to prove you are not a risk.

I just did my DBS check, my employer sent it to me. Where you teaching in England? My husband and I are moving over soon to start primary jobs in Ipswich.

In my case, I was offered a job at a primary school and they arranged for my DBS check. However, because I had only been in the UK for a month, they needed an FBI criminal background check as well. They were willing to accept one that had been done within the last 6 months but I had never had one done. It wasn’t difficult to do. I applied online, printed a fingerprint card and got my prints done at the police headquarters. Mailed them to Virginia and had an email certificate within 2 weeks and a hard copy a couple weeks later.
Spouse Visa issued 31 December 2018
Moved to UK 19 January 2019
FLR app submitted 1 October 2021
Biometrics 9 October 2021
FLR approval 31 October 2021
ILR approval 10 March 2024
