US TAXES! Ahh!
« on: April 20, 2018, 05:09:36 PM »
Hey all, sorry this is obvious but I just wanted to make sure I have the right understanding!

So I am a US citizen living in the UK- since I was a student last year I honestly did not make that much so technically do not have a high income to declare....BUT I understand that I need to file taxes to declare that I am abroad- is that correct? If so, does anyone have guidance on the forms/process?

Also, now that I am married (to a UK citizen)- how will my US taxes be changed? Different form for 2018, I'm assuming?

Thanks for any insight!

A US income tax return for 2017 will need to be filed with the IRS if worldwide income and gains exceed $10,400 (single) $4,050 (married filing separately) or $400 (self-employed). The return is due to be filed by 15 June 2018; but can easily be extended until 15 December if necessary.  An FBAR for 2017 must, however, if needed be filed with the US Treasury by 15 October 2018.
