Currency transfer service that isn't Transferwise?
« on: May 11, 2018, 06:59:38 PM »
My Transferwise account has stopped recognising my bank account.  :\\\'(

It's been an absolutely horrid day of call after call between the two and literally hours of explaining the same story to countless different representatives of both.

Long story short, the bank says the problem is with Transferwise and Transferwise say the problem is with the bank. The bank at least tired to help...Transferwise say there is nothing they can do.

I used XE before Transferwise and they were sub standard in every way so I would really hate to have to go back to them.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative please?

I was very pleased with HiFx until they dropped customers who resided in the USA some years ago, but I hear that they have now dropped that restriction.

Is the bank TSB by any chance?

No, it's my US bank so I can't bring money here any more. WFB.

Ah! Thanks! I think I'll have to call xe again and get reacquainted. I haven't used them since the HiFix takeover debacle and was hoping not to have to again.
I just can't believe that I'm having this trouble with Transferwise, I'll call them again later today and see if opening a new account would be an option but when I suggested that yesterday as a possibility, they were dismissive of the idea.

All this extra security that these institutions keep piling on starts to become pointless if you then can't actually use the accounts that it's supposed to protect!  :-X

When was the last time you used Transferwise? I did notice they changed their authorization process recently.

I used mine yesterday to send some money from the USA to the UK. I use it several times per year but can’t say I remember any changes, or having to reauthorize any banks.

It was about a month ago that I last used my account.

I've been moving money twice a month on Transferwise. I had trouble when I first switched from xe to Transferwise because of the small size of my credit union in the US, but they did a fix for that. I've noticed no changes recently.

Thanks Fred. This is what I don't understand, Transferwise are completely unwilling to help. They won't override, they won't re-authenticate my account, they won't look for any sort of a fix, they didn't seem like they were going to let me have a new account (told me this one is adequate.. on what planet is something that doesn't work adequate?)
And the girl that "took ownership of my case" yesterday told me that she was working today but that does me no good because I've just realised the phone lines are only open M-F!
I'm just so frustrated!  >:(

Oh my goodness! That's awful!

I've used Transferwise twice a month for the better part of a year, this month included, with no problems.

I do hope they get this sorted out for you soon!

Thanks Nan!  :). It's actually really scary not being able to get ahold of your own money when you want to.

But it's a gorgeous day here and even if they were open, I don't think I have the energy left to make another call right now  (I'm not exaggerating when I say I was at it for literally hours and hours yesterday, wasted my whole day) so I'm going to take advantage of the lovely weather and get on with painting the back gate, which needs to be done!  :)

In order to increase the amount and frequency I could move money last year (we bought a house) I opened a new account in my wife’s name using exactly the same bank accounts but a different email address. Is that an option moving forward?
