Dublin US Preclearance?
« on: May 25, 2018, 02:16:41 PM »
Hi!

We’ve got a flight from London to San Francisco next week and it stops in Dublin. I was told that upon arrival in Dublin to go directly to the US preclearance area. My layover in Dublin is only 1 hour and 15 minutes. Will I have time for preclearance before boarding my connecting flight?

This is probably a bit late now but yes, you'll have time. All passengers flying from Dublin to the USA have to pass through the US border checks before boarding so that the flight can arrive with no immigration requirements at the destination. If the flight's advertised with the connection then they expect the passengers to have time.

Might be late for the OP but I had the same question (2 hour layover in Dublin) so that's a relief. Thank you!

Yeah just in case anybody else is wondering, we've done it in that time period:)

Word of warning though, I've had the people at preclearance try to separate my and my husband telling us "we weren't family". Just try to ignore them if you can as they shouldn't be separating you. We listened to them the first of a few times doing this trip and it took us REALLY close to our next boarding time (but it wasn't far to where we needed to be so was okay in the end) because the non-US passport control line was REALLY long that day. The person at the desk told me we could've gone together through the US passport line and we've never had a problem since.
My, how time flies....

"we weren't family".

WTF?  Did you show them a picture of your pup?  If you guys aren't the definition of a family, what IS a family?!?   ::)

lol they saw his passport colour and told him he had to go to the other line with the MASSIVE queue. I was like "but we're together! That's my husband." and I was trying to say we had a flight leaving in an hour and we needed to go through together and he said "Sorry, you don't count as family here" and I was like "WE'RE LEGALLY MARRIED!" and they went "yeah sorry." and walked away and made him go in the other queue. Now we don't even speak to them. We ignore them and go to the machine together and haven't had a problem.

We've had problems going into the US as well where the airport staff try to separate us because they are clueless only to be told by the officer that we could've/should've gone together so we just ignore everybody now and go through together as the machines allow it. I was honestly baffled. It's not like it was even an Irish pre-clearance! It was a United States clearance and we have a US marriage certificate! How could it not have been recognised!?

This!  I NEVER EVER ask, as the airport staff don't have a clue.  And the immigration officers WANT you to go together as you are TRAVELLING together.  They even want you to stick together if you are dating.

Yeah we made the mistake the first time doing it of just looking a little confused as to best process and also being panicked about only having an hour to get through it all. They saw our weakness and spotted the different passports and we were done lol NEVER AGAIN! Now we are confident as f**k and we just ignore whatever bs they throw at all and just continue to do what we know is the right process as they truly truly are clueless. You're right. The IOs want you to go together!
