Little late replying and haven't read all the comments but we used to only use BA exclusively....but the last few years we now use either Aer Lingus or Norwegian as the pricing is just sooo much cheaper and the flight itself is perfectly fine :) Only differences is that we don't get free drinks on A.L. & Norwegian like we do on BA lol

Free drinks?  Alcoholic ones?  How/why?  Am I just too cheap?  I always search for the lowest fare I can swing, so I've never received a perk or upgrade.  They hate me!  :(

BA/Air Canada do free drinks on international flights, even the cheapest fares. Air transat does a free drink with the meal. And I cant remember what virgin did (was on too many meds to notice).

Pretty sure Virgin give free booze as well. Most of the major international airlines do.

I've had free alcohol on international flights with Cathay Pacific, BA, Virgin and Latam Airlines. It seems to be mainly the US airlines that make you pay for alcohol (not counting the UK budget airlines that make you pay for everything).

Yeah, can't speak for Air Canada or Virgin (though I think my husband said it was free on Virgin as well), but on long haul flights the drinks are free. With Aer Lingus & possible even Norwegian, if I remember correctly (hazy on Norwegian at the moment as I've not yet had coffee), I believe they did free drink with your main meal on the long haul flight. All the other shorter or domestic flights it's no dice.

Well!  I regret racking up all my miles on American Airlines.  Now I wish I'd gone with someone better.

But I can use my AA miles on BA, can't I?  They're both part of the "One World Alliance", or something like that?  Or did I make that up?

Yes, they are the same alliance.

Yup, free booze on BA.  It's great when you've got kids.  Helps make the flight more tolerable.   ;D

They don't go out of their way to make that known though :) When it's not meals, they don't tend to just wheel the drink cart around so you have to just go up to them and ask them for a drink (but just check that nothing has changed and they haven't removed that privilege first as I haven't flown with them in a few years now lol) . When I ordered my second heineken once (teeny can size) I was told to "be careful as the oxygen levels would make it go to my head quicker" by one of the hostesses LOL while I watched her hand two bigger cans in one go to some younger looking lad. I was like ....trust me...I can handle two tiny Heinekens...

That's great!  If I ever do decide to go "home" for a visit (read: shopping extravaganza), I'm going with BA!

My eyes would have rolled REALLY far back into my head with that comment.

Sadly, they no longer have the "tuck in box".  Eliminated in the past year.  That was a fun trick I learned, that they had a box of yummy snacks for you to help yourself to in the galley throughout the flight.

But they will still give you a drink.   ;D

Wish I had known about the tuck in box!! What is this witchcraft?! haha

Yeah my eyes nearly did roll out of my skull. I was thinking about how that guy was younger than me by a good few years! Surely he should've been less experienced than me! lol I was like "this isn't my first rodeo, but thanks :)"

My mum and I flew Virgin to the US last year and there were these two guys sitting in front of us - they spent the entire flight drinking beer and then tried to order another beer on the last in-flight Service offering... even though they had already announced that no more alcohol would be served as we were in the last couple of hours of the flight.

The conversation went something like this:
Attendant: can I get you something to drink, sir?
Guy: Beer, please
A: I’m sorry, sir, we are no longer serving alcohol. We do have a selection of tea, coffee, orange juice and soft drinks if you’d like though
G: I’d like a beer
A: (repeats spiel)
G: I can I have wine then?
A: (repeats spiel)
G: Vodka (or some other spirit)
A: (more than irritated now) As I said, sir, we are no longer serving any alcohol
G: can I see your manager?
A: you want to see the manager?
G: yes
A: okay then
She walked off, but I didn’t see any manager appear and nothing else seemed to come of it :P.

I'd definitely rather sit next to a kid than a drunk person on a plane, no doubt.

Granted, at this point in my life - I have no choice but to sit next to my kids... but that's neither here nor there.   ;D

A friend flew back to the USA yesterday from the middle east.  Business class with her three kids (dad not travelling with).  She asked a guy travelling solo if he minded switching with her so she could be sat near the kids.  He refused.  She got to sit several rows back and enjoy a peaceful flight.  (Her kids are awesome travellers and the youngest is 6-ish, so no big deal).  Dude, why did the guy not move?!?  She also said there were lots of EMPTY seats in business class he could have moved to (but not enough together for her family).  People are weird.

That is *incredibly* weird! I probably would have asked the flight attendant to ask him though as they seem to have more authority to other passengers in times like that haha

Some people! I just probably would have said "so it's a no then? Cool.." and walked off when he got to the wine bit. This is why I'm not a flight attendant LOL.

OH! I did not know that! I have over 55,000 miles on AA...I need to look into how to use them on BA then  ;D
