Because none of us have even a modicum of self-control.  ;D

Haha how do our threads ever end up where they do!? Lack of self-control! ;p

Speaking of self control, and most people have forgotten this,  the singer Laura Branigan - of Gloria! fame - actually had another, if not as notable, hit with Self Control.

Coincidence?

Does Europe have a great deal of intolerance and bigotry? My wife is African American and she is my life. The idea of someone saying or doing anything negative towards her would get my blood boiling. I've heard crazy things about Austria and some of the outdated thinking that has been demonstrated there. Thankfully the UK is the true beacon of inclusion in Europe. And I'm sure there are other European countries that are diverse and inclusive.

I think it's going to depend on where you go. And who you meet, really.

It racism that widespread that it can be encountered everywhere in Europe?

It can also be encountered in many parts of the UK even with its history, so... Yes. It is that widespread everywhere :(

...it can pretty much be encountered anywhere if you associate with the wrong people or just end up in the wrong place at the wrong time...nowhere is 100% free of racism.

I used to mostly agree with this statement, then came the Brexit vote.  Don't underestimate how important the xenophobic aspect of Brexit was.  I really like the UK, but I am not so proud of it anymore.

I would’ve liked this comment but I can’t on the app...:but I mostly agree with this statement. I’m proud of the UK for many things....by not when it comes to the topic of xenophobia

I can top your complaint about the UK. Try being an American while your country is ran by Trump who btw loves Hitler, Putin and every other psychotic racist maniac. See if you can beat that. Oh btw, this week we are trying to separate babies from there mothers. You guys have it easy. Unless Teresa May turns out to be the Manchurian Candidate, the UK looks very inclusive by current American standards. Our President hates Canadians. Who doesn't love Canadians? They are some of the nicest people ever!

LOL. Trump said to disagree with him is to commit treason. I hope Canadians smuggle shoes into America and use them to kick him.

I am a Remainer, but since Brexit is happening I think it should be as hard and fast as possible now.  Lingering for years is very damaging.  Give everything to the Brexiteers and let them own the result.  Brits in Europe need to come home and Europeans without status need to leave.  The hostile environment is in place so they will soon be cut out of employment, banking, housing, and NHS.  I have my popcorn ready.

Even though your suggestions would be disastrous for me and my family, I can see your logic.  A tiny voice in my head tells me to move to Ireland and then laugh at the elderly Brexit voters calling for a nurse on the ward who is never going to come 'cuase she's pissed off back to Poland.

It's like turning over a coke machine though isn't it? You have to get the damned thing rocking for a while.

What Eastern European countries would you consider for retirement? And have you ever wanted to retire in a different country than your own?
