Is everyone safe??? Forest fires scare the crap outta me!

Remember, the air may be full of stuff you don't want to breathe in - so get an N95 mask!

Praying for everyone’s safety. Hope the winds don’t pick up! Definitely get a mask.

My husband’s parent’s lost their home in that Northern California (Sonoma/Napa) wildfire that burned @245k acres last year. The dry air coupled with the strong winds that night brewed the perfect conditions for that fire storm

I'm sorry to hear that.

My parents were affected by the Thomas Fire this winter in Southern California - which is why I am so scared of forest fires at the moment. The resulting mudslides are still devastating Montecito... my parents are now trying to sell their house (which is still standing). Even though hundreds were destroyed, who wants to move there now??

Yes, crazy how many wildfires hit CA last winter. I’m sorry for your parents too. But glad they got out of it safely!

Thanks for everyone's concern, it was not such a big deal in the end. Just a few spot fires that were not big but certainly close.  I've also been near california wildfires and don't like taking chances, especially in a wierd foreign country.

In the end, I figured out the wind was blowing the fires away from us and made sure the road away from the house was away from the fires, and finally convinced the family to leave cause we were going anyway.

Did I mention that I was on two different active volcanos in two days?  Pictures later.

As promised, here is Stromboli erupting just a bit when we were half way up

We were walking down to this pizza restaurant where you can sit and watch the fire and lava shoot out

Best pizza of the whole trip

The next day we took a ferry to an island called Vulcan and hiked up to the crater

Volcano, valshano...

What is her top 25 percentage?
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Jimbo,

Why do I have the impression that if you were on the Big Island in Hawaii right now you'd have gotten a fishing pole and stuck a bunch of marshmallows on the end of it and would be toasting them to a golden brown over the lava flow?

 ;D

I'd do that if I could,  there were some spots at the crater on Vulcan you could have cooked a marshmallow.  It would taste like sulphur.

By the way, here's the coolest thing about Sicily

They've got tons of lemons and blood oranges, so they make slushees.  Nothing other than hand squeezed juice, sugar and ice.  Available everywhere it is hot for €2

Compared to stupid Morocco where they just wanted to give you hot tea and steal your money
