I can supply the GF versions so it can be a full night of tasty noms! I'm seriously going to give this a shot with Cassava flour soon. Its the most wheat-like in texture GF flour I've found without needing tons of additives :)

We do need to do a mini food festival, though.  Just a night (weekend?) of recreating all of the proper American junk that we all miss... including variations for those with intolerances.

I've been thinking about the something-missing from my eggrolls... the recipe I used doesn't have onion or onions powder in it, and I don't think I ever tasted onion in the really good ones, but that could be what's missing...?  But you might be on to something with five spice.

For obvious reasons, I can't host this...  And I don't have a car yet.  But when I get a car, I'm willing to travel... maybe I can even talk my husband into socializing.   ;)  We should also get Tom from TeamTollie in on this.  I hear he's a chef.  ;)

That’s simply inspiring!  I’ve been craving potstickers.  I used to buy them frozen in a tiny Asian shop in Florida.  Looks like I’m gonna have to try to make them myself if I want them.

Katoo, you might want to check and see if there are any Chinese supermarkets near you.  We have a few in Glasgow, and all of them sell big bags of frozen potstickers.

Yeah we've also got at least one bigger one down here near Reading. There are smaller local ones as well (one specifically in Reading we used to go to to get our Satay sauce).

I live in a small town and have 3 Asian markets in the city centre.

Omg, Schwan's has the best popsicles, push-ups, ice cream sandwiches and sundae cones... I miss them...

Oh, gosh, I REALLY miss Schwans' food deliveries!

Happily!  I want everybody to experience the joy!  I did just steal these off of various internet posts, and kind of hacked them together.  These were the ones that looked most like what I wanted to achieve:

If you're making your own wrappers, start them early because there is resting time involved. Store-bought are quicker/easier, but I haven't been able to find them so I watched a Youtube video and made my own.

Ingredients for the wrappers:
300g plain flour
2 eggs
60ml water
1 tsp salt
Some cornstarch (cornflour) to keep the dough from sticking.

Ingredients for the filling:
4 oz. Pork mince
1 head Napa cabbage, finely chopped
1 carrot, peeled then grated
1 tablespoon of water
1-1/2 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp black pepper

Here are the videos for the methods:
Wrappers:

Filling:

I don't know which recipe we used for the sweet & sour sauce because it is in my husband's phone's tabs.  It used pineapple juice, ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, and a few other flavours, and thickened with a cornflour & water slurry.

Our tempura batter was 140g of plain flour, 2 tsp of baking powder, some salt, and soda water (we didn't have any, so we used sparkling lemonade after debating between that and beer).  Dredge the chicken in corn flour then coat in the batter, then into the hot oil to cook.

Belated thanks for the recipes.  This is going to be a "try it soon" - maybe with chicken.

I was thinking of you when I was in China -   Had some proper, proper egg rolls and oh , they were good.
