We're in the southern part of Carmarthenshire.  Kind of between Llanelli and Carmarthen.  Mid-Wales (Powys region?) is arguably prettier than where I live, but we wanted to be close to the M4 for better job prospects.  Plus, we're a very short drive to one of the most beautiful and expansive beaches I've ever been to.

If you don't need to be near a lot of job prospects, I heartily recommend checking out the area along the coast between Aberystwyth and Barmouth (directly west of where your sister lives).  It was a bit too out of the way for us, but it is stunningly beautiful up there.  Mountains on one side of you, sea on the other, and it's green and lush everywhere.  Plus, the coast railway, because trains.

We're taking the dogs to Wales the first full weekend in July! We're even staying near Aberystwyth. 15 minutes away. My first time there and we found a nice little self catered cottage for the 4 of us (2 humans 2 dogs). :)
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I'm definitely cheering for you!  I think I'm alone for Wales representation.  Will be nice to have another voice extolling the virtues of this country... there are many!  Yay Wales!

Does that accent not bother anyone else though?  It's cool when they speak Welsh, but English?

There are two accents that I find horrible on the ears.  Irish and Australian.  I said it!

The accent never bothered me but talking on the phone was probably the most difficult to understand because his accent seemed alot deeper than over Skype and in person. Now I have no problems understanding. When I get back to Wales both my future sister in law and I want to go learn Welsh so I'm excited.

I can understand my husband's accent just fine (always could, remarkably!).  For me, I need a translator to help me understand his meaning sometimes.  I don't know if it's a British politeness thing, or if it's just my husband, but if I ask him if he wants something, he'll say "I'm not fussed" or "I don't mind" or something along those lines, which it turns out means "yes" (though I'm not sure if that's all the time, or just sometimes...).  Even now, after all these years, I have to ask for clarification, because I don't want to put fresh ground pepper in his soup if he doesn't want it.

As for the Welsh accent... it's a struggle!  When the Tesco man (or woman) used to come, I had a hard time with the small talk.  Some were easier to understand than others.  And I like the cadence (Welsh people just sound jolly).  But a lot of times, I'd just smile and nod.

Nothing annoyed me more than when we first starting dating and we'd go somewhere or I'd cook him a meal and he'd say, "Yeah, it's alright."  I was like, "*bleep* off."  Now I know "Alright" is the highest level of praise!
