I can understand my husband's accent just fine (always could, remarkably!). For me, I need a translator to help me understand his meaning sometimes. I don't know if it's a British politeness thing, or if it's just my husband, but if I ask him if he wants something, he'll say "I'm not fussed" or "I don't mind" or something along those lines, which it turns out means "yes" (though I'm not sure if that's all the time, or just sometimes...). Even now, after all these years, I have to ask for clarification, because I don't want to put fresh ground pepper in his soup if he doesn't want it.As for the Welsh accent... it's a struggle! When the Tesco man (or woman) used to come, I had a hard time with the small talk. Some were easier to understand than others. And I like the cadence (Welsh people just sound jolly). But a lot of times, I'd just smile and nod.
Oh I love the people..They are always so polite and friendly. I do understand what you mean about the different words they use just for a simple yes or just some other words. I am currently drawing a blank for examples, but there has been many where I'll have to ask, what do you mean by that, and he and I both laugh.
My husband now knows that we PET animals. We don't stroke them. LOL!!!

Nothing annoyed me more than when we first starting dating and we'd go somewhere or I'd cook him a meal and he'd say, "Yeah, it's alright." I was like, "*bleep* off." Now I know "Alright" is the highest level of praise!
OMG I am so excited...I am a couple of days away from being back in Wales...I thought this day would never come....Can't wait to get back to the kindness, the beautiful scenery, the food, and my cwtches from my hubby to be...YAY!!!
Yay! I'm so excited that someone is coming to WALES! It's the UK's best-kept secret, I think.
I definitely agree....Nathan says the very same thing and we joke all the time with lets keep it that way...He jokes and tells me to tell everyone to just say you are going to the UK...Say nothing about Wales...LOL. YAY!!! SO EXCITED!!! I AM SO READY TO GET BACK!!! WALES HERE I COME!!!
I heard through the grapevine that SooninDevon has a conflict and can't come up to Bristol on October 7th... YOU can make it to a meetup that day, right? We should start an official thread to work out the details.
Do you have a wedding date set?
We've got the venue, the cake, the photographer, the reception and the party afterwards already in place...Just need to work out the rest of the details and we are all set
