Shipping my Saddle
« on: June 26, 2018, 01:51:31 PM »
Hey everyone,  bit of a random question! I want to bring my Grandpa's large western saddle with me when I move to England. I'm hesitant to check it through the airline bc I have heard horror stories of saddles coming out with broken trees, etc. Does anyone have any experience of shipping saddles abroad? The usps website says it's too large to ship and UPS etc want $1800!!

Thanks!

I would see if you can get it packaged professionally and then check it on the plane.  Won't be any different than if it was transported through someone else regarding handling!  It's ALLLLLL in the packaging.  :)

I was going to say something similar. Put it in a box with really good amounts of cushioning. Use lots of packing peanuts and bubble wrap then take it as excess baggage on the plane.

Just thinking either a packing company - or even a tackle shop would be best to contact.  I suspect a tackle shop may know exactly how to package a saddle to prevent any damage.

I'm from a family of engineers.  They all will tell you anything can tumble and fall with the right packaging and be just fine.  :)

There is an engineer here at the horse rescue where I'm volunteering who would probably love the challenge! There's also a 3 story Bass Pro in Oklahoma city- that's a great suggestion! All the people here drive their horses wherever they are going so they don't really have any experience of shipping saddles!

Seriously KFdancer, is there anything you can't do?!! :) :) ♡♡

I don't do "bored" well.  And I don't run.  EVER.  Probably not going to run from a fire.  I may run TOWARDS food, if really hungry and fearful they'll run out...  :D
