Meeeeeee!!!   ;D

Short version is, i was here on holiday and met a boy.  Went home, sold or donated everything i owned to come back and be with him.  Broke up shortly thereafter, but was having such a fab time feeling absolute freedom and falling in love with Glasgow, that i spent the next few years doing everything humanly possible to be able to stay here... including telling a lot of lies, breaking my parents hearts, marrying a ridiculously unsuitable man, and spending a shed-load of money.

But i made it happen, and never really looked back... from the moment i got here, i knew my life was HERE.

Sorry - a bit pished after Belgium v Japan and might be feeling a bit soppy!  :D

Who here moved to the UK by choice (not for a job transfer) and why did you?

I used to travel around the US a lot (I felt very restless and was always looking for an excuse to get away from wherever I was).  As I was traveling, any time I came to a patch of lush green and gentle hills (or grander hills), I would feel drawn to it.  I loved I-40 in Eastern Tennessee, a stretch of I-71in Kentucky between Louisville and Cincinnati, a tiny little county highway in Arkansas at a place called Joy Mountain, a section of I-90 just south of Missoula, Montana... etc.  Just little patches of natural beauty.

Then I came over here to visit my now-husband and the whole country looked like these places.  Everything was green.  It was amazing.  I really felt like I'd come home.  AND I had found the man I thought my imagination had invented but it turned out he really did exist!  I didn't even hesitate over who would move.  It never even occurred to me to ask him to move to the US.  Everything about the UK suits me (except for the lack of eggrolls and Mountain Dew), but most especially the fact that nearly all of Great Britain is gently-rolling hills, picturesque valleys, tranquil rivers, and green everywhere.

Me ::hands up::. I moved here because I married a Brit and, after consideration, the UK was the better option for the two of us to build our life.
My, how time flies....

* Married in the US and applied for first spousal visa August 2013
* Moved to the UK on said visa October 2013
* FLR(M) applied for  May 2016. Biometrics requested June 2016. Approval given July 2016.
* ILR applied for January 2019 (using priority processing). Approved February 2019.
* Citizenship applied for May  2019
* Citizenship approved on July 4th 2019
* Ceremony conducted on August 28th 2019

I promise you, there is NOTHING really quality or juicy!!!... i just did what i had to do to get by....for example, back in 1986 i took a £40 a week job washing dishes in an Italian restaurant.  They asked if i was legal to work and i said yes, but i wasn't... 6 or 7 weeks later they started bugging me about producing my papers and i just delayed and delayed until they finally had to sack me cos i had no papers.   I lied to my parents a lot about what i was doing, and where/how i was living (they would not have been amused to find i was living off ketchup sandwiches in order to have money for beer), who i was with, how long i was staying,  was i still going to church, etc, etc.   That kind of thing.

haha you should write a memoir about your story! I would definitely read it as it sounds like you've had an interesting adventure :)
