My Dad is currently working a place where they recreate missing and damaged bits of masonry off buildings with microcotta (polymer clay that looks like the 'real deal').  He gets to create the drawings of the parts themselves in SolidWorks and AutoCAD and then does the 3D printing of the part and then they can be used on the buildings (lightweight, fire resistant, etc). It's pretty cool.  He can also do the reverse and create a mould if they want to make it out of other materials, etc.

I would have loved engineering camp.  They were probably around when I was a kid, not that I know of, but no internet telling us so either, but I am sure we couldn't afford it or would have struggled with transportation and timings to get to them anyways.  Had plenty of STEM toys though!!  ;D
I've never gotten food on my underpants!
Work permit (2007) to British Citizen (2014)

That sounds like a fantastic job.

Oh, man, some people get all the luck! What a fabulous job!

Speaking of jobs, the Daughter has an interview next week for a good one. She's exceptionally excited.  Fingers (and toes) are crossed for her.

Not so much a moment of happiness but relief...I just sent in my last tax return for HMRC! I posted in a different thread a few months back that I hadn't been submitting tax returns for the UK for the last 3 tax years because I didn't know about the residency rules for UK taxation (oops...definitely my own fault). But I just sent off the last one I have to submit so I'm feeling very relieved to have that done!

I don't owe anything because I was a student at the time and didn't earn enough (either here or in the US) but it was weighing on my mind anyway, especially since I know I'll be going for citizenship eventually. I just prefer to have all my ducks in a row and everything done correctly.

So that's done with!!

Side note, if you're looking for some light reading, can't recommend HMRC's Statutory Residence Test guide enough. Only 105 pages of pleasant reading!! ;D ::) /s
Spouse visa received: 30 November 2018
Arrived in the UK: 27 December 2018

FLR(M)
Application submitted: 4 August 2021 (super priority)
Biometrics: 15 August 2021
Decision: 16 August 2021 - approved!

ILR
Application submitted: 14 December 2023 (super priority)
Biometrics: 17 December 2023
Decision: 18 December 2023 - approved!

Check this out

My boy printed it but didn’t design it.  It actually turns smoothly and the bits inside are locked in place by the slope of the gears so they can’t come out.

This was printed all at once, because of the design it would be impossible to assemble
