The River Cottage handbooks are really good. Most are not actually written by Hugh ,but by people who actually know what they're doing!   ;D
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

Yeah, the one on bread is written by a man called Daniel ("Dan") Stevens.  I think Hugh wrote a foreword, maybe?  Someone-who-isn't-Daniel did.  I'll check... Yup, it was Hugh.  If the other volumes are as well written as this one, I think I want the whole set for my future kitchen.

I can see myself really getting into cooking and baking when I have a proper workspace again.  I was a lazy eater and even lazier food preparer in the US, but since moving here, I've switched away from so much processed and fast food (because UK processed food doesn't taste like US processed food, and I found I didn't like the differences) to almost all "real" food, with treats and the occasional shortcut (like tortillas, which I still haven't cracked, but River Cottage Handbook has an entry on tortillas, so there's hope!) thrown in.  I really appreciate knowing what's in my food.

Look at my white loaf!  It made amazing sandwiches on Saturday, the best jam on toast ever on Sunday morning, and chewy delicious crusts to dip into our braised shin of beef on Sunday evening.  I love my book and I love bread!  (And, of course, I love having an oven again!!)

Oooooo! Nice!

I love Wednesdays...

Hour and a half on a quiet train to get work done...

Three hours of school in Edinburgh...

then I get to see my gal for coffee....

another hour and a half of quiet time on train...

Nice that the middle of my week is so exciting!

My husband just told me that he bought us tickets to go see Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act for my birthday!!! I am so excited!
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Rainbows have pretty much always been my favourite thing. Today was my last day of work, new job starts on Monday, and rainbows followed me all the way home from my office with some of the brightest I've ever seen on the drive. Definitely a little moment of happiness. :)

That's great, we had an amazing rainbow in Twickenham as well. It was absolutely complete, and for the first time I could actually see where it came down in the park.  I expected to see a pot of gold.  Parts of it were double as well.

Good luck on your new job, I know you will do well.

I've decided to rebrand myself as an Azure data engineer and I'm working on Azure certification.  I've got the fundamental one, and I am booked on Saturday for the second.  Then one more and hopefully I'll be rolling in contracts.

I'm disappointed you didn't find that pot of gold, Jimbo.  I know you would've shared with me if you had, and that's really nice of you.  Maybe next time.

Good luck with the rebranding.  I'm sure you'll be inundated in contracts in no time!

Banana bread is in the oven, and the house smells wonderful!  My recipe turns 3 overripe bananas (and some flour, sugar, butter, egg, vanilla, etc.) into two loaves of banana bread.  I can't wait!  This is the first time in over three years that I haven't had to worry about over-buying bananas!  I have an oven!  *twirl*

Second happy thing! I just had a realization...  Now that I have an oven, small though it may be, I like my utili-kitchen.  Don't get me wrong: I'm still eagerly anticipating the day I have a real kitchen again (one with my dishwasher actually installed and operational!).  But I just realized I'm perfectly happy baking in my current tiny kitchen space.  I've made so much bread in the last couple of weeks, and now I have "banana cake" (that's what my husband calls it, because it's not really a bread) going... Utili-kitchen is better than my old kitchen before we moved.  Yay!  (Future kitchen will be the best kitchen of all, though.  Obviously.)
