Started pouring here at about 9:00pm. Got a little bit of a lightshow, and was able to sleep with the windows cracked open. Lovely cool air. It looks "soupy" out there again today, but not really raining. I do hope it does. Or at least, that the breeze starts back up. Right now it's absolutely still.
The trees over in the Botanic Gardens were starting to look really thirsty earlier this week, so it's come just in the nick of time. I wonder if there's going to be much of a flooding problem down south? The fields looked really dry when we were going to Durham, and I believe it was worse further south. Super baked soil has a way of not absorbing water very well. Or, some kinds of soil anyway.
As for us townies, the oil that's been sort of gathering on the roads surfaces was liberated by the first bit of the rain - we could tell by the number of sirens we heard wailing past for a while. People forget that the first rain after a long dry spell does make the roads a bit more slippery.
It's good to see the rain again, though.
