ILR application cut off date for price increase
« on: July 12, 2018, 09:02:12 AM »
Hi,

I am due to apply for my ILR in April next year as I arrived in the UK May 2014. Does anyone know when the price increase is due to occur? and if so, would anytime in April suffice or do I have to stick to the actual date before I apply? Also, I have been doing the mock "life in the UK" tests and need to know if I need this done prior to my application or do I apply and then take it?

Thank you :)

Increases *usually* happen on April 6th, the start of the new tax year.  They have been sneaky and snuck it in early in the past.  Though rare.

Get the LIUK test done as early as you can, so you don't have to worry about it.  You can take it anytime and it's good forever.

The Life in the UK Test must be passed prior to making your ILR application.  Your pass notification letter will be included in your application package.

The annual fee rises usually occur in the first week of April (though they raised fees in mid-March one time a few years ago).

You can apply from up to 28 days prior to fulfilling your 5 year/60 months on a settlement visa to before the expiration of your current visa's expiration.  If you intend to apply in person for ILR, you will book and pay for your application appointment up to 45 business days before your appointment.

So, hypothetically, if you will reach 60 months on 15 May, 2019, you can apply up to 28 days before that, so the earliest is 17 April, 2019.  If you intend to apply in person, you would book the appointment for on or after 17 April, by visiting the website on or after 13 February, 2019.  The day you book the appointment is the day you would pay, so you'd pay the old rate.

If you apply by post, you can post your application on or after 17 April, and the day you post it is the day you 'pay', so you'd pay the new rate.
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

It appears that the process for applying for settlement and other visas from within the U.K. may change later this year. It will be interesting to see if the changes take place as planned.

It is not clear from reading a few Immigration sites whether or not PSC appointments as we know them will still be an option.
Married 1966, left UK 1969, returned 1998, left again 2000, returned June 2014 (husband on spousal visa) granted FLR(M) November 30th 2016  and ILR on  24th May, 2019. Yeah!

Thanks Michali!  :) I wouldn't like to be one of the first through the new process! How does that work with your timing?

Not very well! If it starts in October as planned, then we have a few months to see if it works or is a total disaster!

We have to think positive! We get to keep passports which is good but how long will the process take? You can upload your own documents  but will copies made in, and submitted from,  a local library get lost?! I have already read that libraries are objecting to the responsibility.

It'll be me too if the process is a disaster!
