Contacting the Help Line.
« on: July 30, 2018, 10:35:15 PM »
Has anyone had experience calling the Home Office help line? We are unable to get back onto the Visa4UK site after filling out most of the application, and our emails are not receiving any helpful information, so we are forced to call them (as much as we hate spending more money on a long-distance, expensive phone call).

I'd appreciate feedback from anybody who has dealt with the phone line. Does it take long to talk to a real person? Is there a good/quieter time to call? Any tips?

Thank you.

DO NOT CALL THE HELP LINE!!!

They will charge an arm and a leg and they are essentially just call centre workers. Call 10 times with the same question and you'll get 10 different answers...
2004-2008: Student Visa
2008-2010: Tier 1 PSW
2010-2011: Tier 4
2011-2014: Tier 2
2013-2016: New Tier 2 (changed jobs)
16/12/15: SET (LR) successful! - It's been a long road...
12/05/16: Citizenship ceremony!

I've had pretty terrible experiences with the help line too. I agree with the previous answer - different people gave me different answers from the help line. So I don't think they're all well trained.
I find advises from the forum makes more sense/more reliable.

Gabirich is having technical problems with the website and is looking for advice on a way to get back into their visa4UK account. They are reluctant to make a new account because this would entail re-entering a substantial amount of information already there. Unfortunately it looks like it may come to that.

Thanks for the clarification, Larrabee. You are right and that is why we called.

Unfortunately the other posters are also right. It was a waste of money and time (we set our alarms to get up at 5:30am to call). The woman on the phone was very pleasant but useless...told us she was aware there was a problem with the Visa4UK site and couldn't say when it would be fixed.

Excuse me while I scream and throw some plates at the wall!
Frustrated? Who me???

You mentioned others are having the same issue, so if they're aware of the problem it's definitely unfortunate timing and frustrating but IT issues happen. They rarely last more than a day though, so you may want to try the password reset again. I've heard from friends that the most recent safari is causing a lot of issues due to the data capture blocking features, so I'd recommend a different browser with adblockers disabled. And then checking the spam folder in case the email goes there, as they are also usually timed and only valid for a short time frame (for security reasons). Good luck, I hope you can get back in soon!

Thanks, Margo, but we have done all of the above! Tried three different browsers, disabled pop-ups and checking spam. I've also learned there are others who've had this problem since Friday so it has been four days with no resolution (and there may be more who have had the problem longer).

We keep trying time and time again and have had so many password resets that we've lost count.

We're now considering deleting it completely and starting again in the hope we can blast through it without saving and going back as we did this time. It is no small task as we have been on the road since 2010 and have sooo many countries, visas, dates and bookings we need to enter (once again).

Please send positive tech karma our way!

Are your financial documents still in date?

They are. But if we haven't heard anything by tomorrow, we're planning on starting the entire darned thing from scratch.

We sent the first email more than 24 hours ago and had three responses. One asked for the same information we'd just provided, one thanked us for our email and the third was a survey of their service (!).

You said your travel history was extensive - I recommend putting it in a word doc or spreadsheet you can copy from. You'll need it for the next two visas as well! *fingers crossed * you run into no more issues!
