When to do ToR?
« on: August 01, 2018, 03:00:34 AM »
Hi all! I'm going to be shipping some of my things to the UK, and I'm wondering how long it takes to receive the ToR, and if I should apply before or after I (hopefully) receive my visa?   :)

I would apply before, but probably a few weeks before you expect a decision. Its good for 12 months :)

I still don't have a ToR number -- despite sending it several weeks ago :( -- has anyone ever had to pay customs/VAT and claim it back? If so, how much did you have to pay? An online calculator is saying I'll have to pay 70+ GBP on VAT for a package I valued at $150 which doesn't seem correct

Did you submit it by email or mail? You may want to send a follow up email.

Import fees stink, I believe its 20% VAT and 2.5% import fee for something valued at $150usd. Definitely try to get the TOR before shipping!

Your file was probably too big. That's a common problem. You will need to contact them.

I emailed them and just sent a follow up one today so we will see. Hopefully I get it before shipping, it would be a pain to claim it back I'm sure.
