I'm starting to feel guilty about trolling you guys about the dish soap now that all the posts are getting so sad.  The egg part was completely true but the stuff about solvents in the dish detergent was complete BS.  Just goes to show you can't fool Tami no matter what!

Here's my best wishes y'all get your visas
Don't apologize for making this thread a bit happier :)

When I first came over, I was a bit freaked out that the eggs are kept at room temperature.  I was so used to them being kept chilled in the US and thought they absolutely had to be kept cold to keep them from making you poorly.

Conversely, DH is a bit confused as to why we refrigerate eggs in the US and is amused there are shelves in American refrigerators that are dedicated to holding them.

Most eggs are "washed" in the US before they reach you.  The EU and the US disagree about the safest way (or whether!) to process eggs.  The EU says the US process weakens the integrity of the shell and introduces harmful bacteria into the egg.  https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2014/09/11/336330502/why-the-u-s-chills-its-eggs-and-most-of-the-world-doesnt

No worries - feel free to vent here!

Going through the immigration process to move to another country is a stressful experience that most people can't truly relate to, or really understand what its like, unless they have also lived it.

So let it all out - you're among friends who are also going through it, or have been there, and know exactly what it is like.

Indeed; it makes sense now, but it was a revelation at the time.

Like the dishes thing, I had wondered if I had been tending to my eggs incorrectly my entire life.  :D

(Though, I will steadfastly uphold the rinsing)

I've certainly met a fair few number of people in real life from here (too many to list).  And some who I am simply friends with on Facebook.  While I've never met PhatBeetle, Tami, JFKimberly, Lyonaria (and others) in real life, I feel as though she's my pal from Facebook and here.  :)

You will bloom where you plant your roots and water them.   ;D

Don't let the waiting get to you!

Everything will be fine and you will get here before you know it and you will get to relearn stupid things like how to plus something in or flip a light switch, flush a toilet, use math if you have to look at a clock anytime after noon, don't bother trying to learn Celsius, you'll get to learn all sorts of new phrases depending on where you're located ("Ayup, me duck"). You can also get to decipher what the Irish or the Geordie's are saying to you (good luck with either one lol), you get to live without air conditioning (such fun right now lol), and experience the absolute chaotic madness traffic is here. You will miss queso or any sort of Tex Mex or authentic Mexican food, experiencing the NHS is... Interesting (so are pharmacies 🙄), and you will learn to love ⚽!

It's SO interesting here, never boring there's tons of stuff to do and see and explore. I can't wait for everyone waiting to be approved and be able to be with your loved ones again, people really don't have a clue what it's like til they experience it themselves.

Toes crossed for all y'all.

The longest me and Tom went without seeing each other was 7 months. Some of my friends and family even said "Oh, but you must be used to it by now."
UM NO. You never get used to it!! I have't seen Tom since June 16, so I know how you feel. Been almost 2 months. No amount of time away from your partner is okay. I'm so sorry you're feeling down today! That was me yesterday.

Good vibes, good vibes, good vibes

No you don't... I feel like I'm about to explode. I just so badly need to feel his arms around me and tell me everything will be ok.  I'm so sorry I am being a negative nancy today. I don't want to bring anyone down. i just don't know who else to go to and even though you should be able to go to your partner and family and friends but I don't want to bring my fiance down and my friends and family won't understand what I am feeling or going through. Uggg..... I would not wish this feeling even on my worst enemy. this is just torture.

Come on Sheffield. Grant our Visas...
