XD omg! I'm the complete opposite....my husband was literally a chef for years. I'm from south Louisiana and people expect me to like, be able to make a pot of gumbo or make some rice and gravy and I'm like "do I look like I know how to make gumbo!?"

LOL But really, that's awesome. You two should give the avocado pit a name.
He's almost 50 years old. I can't give him permission to name inanimate objects already.

This forum was suggested when I was in the infancy stage of my visa application. No lie, I lurked and lurked for weeks before actually making an account and a post. Then when I did, KFDancer, I believe, was like "You are missing a few weeks on your bank statements, your visa will be refused if you submit that" I had a panic attack (not your fault KF, because of you I didn't submit that and we ended up switching from fiance to spousal so thanks!) And I avoided the forum like the plague. Every time I got on it I was like "omg omg something is wrong with my application, I suck, these people are so much more experienced than I am!" Once the scary application part was out of the way, I've been feeling way more comfortable to post and read other posts. I can't help too many people, seeing as I'm still a newbie myself, but I've commented on a few! This conversation in particular has been my favo(u)rite!

I have been peeking at the other posts but not really replying to much. I most of the time just don't know what to say because I am so new to this but I do try and welcome the newbies and be supportive.
Ya, I quite fond of this thread as well...LOL ;)

Oh, no! Get well soon Tami!

You should have him grow the avocado pit and then he'll have a little tree to remember his first success with an avocado by!  :)
Thanks! Definitely sucks! I don't even have a crazy story to go with it. I was just walking down some stairs, totally sober.

And no, no avocado plants. I'm currently growing a basil plant and we only have room for one plant. Lol

He's almost 50 years old. I can't give him permission to name inanimate objects already.

Wait... There's a minimum age for that?  Does that mean that Bowlie and Spoony have to give up their names?  It's going to be tricky because Spoony has it laser-engraved on his handle.  :/

We have a handtruck in the workshop that accidentally got named Hendrick when my autocorrect "helped" me with an email... I'm afraid that one is stuck.  And Orange Spoon is actually an orange spoon, so let's just pretend I'm not saying it as a name.  :)  Same with my car; he is a Panda, so his name is Panda.

Me too! Like I'm still dying on the inside and anxiety ridden, but ever since I've opened up and started posting on this forum, I feel soooo much better. It's nice to know I'm not alone in this process, but it's also so much good advice and conversation. I'm grateful! jfkimberly is the one who introduced me to this forum and I am eternally grateful!

Yay jfkimberly!  :D

Yay me!  But, more importantly, thank goodness for UKYankee!  I can't even imagine how many tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds people have not forfeited because this forum exists and it helped ensure successful visa applications.  And that's on top of the intangible benefits of just having support through this emotionally draining experience.  This really is a very special place.  [smiley=heart.gif]

Oh no! I'm so sorry that I played a part in making you feel that way.  Tone can't be read on the Internet but I promise everything comes from a place of love!   [smiley=heart.gif]

Our best threads are ones that start innocently enough...  let's just say, the "Costco" thread is not for the faint of heart...

You should join in our stupid threads.  Friday Five is a good one to get you started (and conveniently tomorrow is Friday).

And ALWAYS follow a thread that Son of a Sailor or Jimbo starts.  They turn FAST and are usually highly entertaining!

There is currently a thread about Gazpacho that is about everything BUT gazpacho!

For anybody who wants to see the murkier side of UKYankee, the Costco thread is buried in Chit Chat somewhere.  For those just wanting some relatively wholesome community, the Gazpacho thread is a current topic in Food Talk (as one might reasonably expect, given its name), and Friday Five is stickied in Chit Chat.

Nooo don't apologize, it helped! I was over confident and it kind of helped me see clearly. I quadruple checked my documents after that!!
