How long can you stay out of the UK?
« on: August 02, 2018, 06:51:00 PM »
American Hubby is back in the States to look after his mother who has had a hip operation.  He left the UK on the 9th July.  Originally he was scheduled to return to the UK on the 12th August.  He may have to stay another week or so.

Is there a limit to how long he can be out of the UK?

I have asked him to get a letter from the treating physician explaining that his mother needs more care.

He is still aiming to return as planned, but if he has to stay an extra two weeks - is that a problem?

There is actually no official time limit for the visas (there is for citizenship but it's fairly generous) and this is an excellent reason for him to be out of the country away from you. It's not a problem but the letter is a good idea.

Thank you so much.  He is worried that it will impact his visa.

I really appreciate you answering - puts both of our minds at rest.

No, it won't have a negative impact at all.  :)
