Just Like to say Hello
« on: August 07, 2018, 11:17:14 PM »
Hi Everyone, I'm Andy otherwise known as Poetry Man the fiance of Mrs Poetry Man  ;D
We certainly had been pulling our hair out trying to figure all the visa's and costs out, then with a couple of hours of Lori joining this group, I was bombarded with options.
Now I must admit, when she told me how much easier and cheaper things would be if we married in Texas first, I immediately starting looking at flights and possible dates, Fortunately the money to book them is sat waiting too.
I know from all I have read so far on here that you will all try your very best to answer any questions and guide or advise where we need it.

So may I say a big THANK YOU to you all in advance

Andy

My advice is to listen to and trust the experts in this forum and you will be ok. Our first visa application before I found this forum was refused. And after much help from the experts (namely, ksand24, KFdancer, and larrabee), our 2nd application was successful. I cannot thank this forum enough, especially as the advice is FREE. We were also convinced by the experts to marry in the US because it made the process so much simpler and cheaper as well.

Also, the process is very stressful and nerve wracking so feel free to rant her as well.

Good luck with your application! And congrats on your decision to spend the rest of your lives together!

Hi Andy and welcome!

I support what Masonjohnsmum says.

The people on this site are experts and they got that way through experience and keeping up to date with all the requirements of the visa journey.  When they tell you something - believe them.

What an adventure the two of you are starting on!

When are you thinking of getting married?

And ......

Getting married in the UK just adds time, money and stress.

If you do get married in the States and want to plan a celebration back in the UK - it would be better to wait until you get your spousal visa in your hot little hands before you book anything.  That could be something you could do when you are both together in the UK.

Welcome!

Definitely just want to agree that you should definitely listen to the advice given here by the experts and to definitely not book ANYTHING in the UK until you have Visa in hand :) Cannot stress that all enough.
My, how time flies....

* Married in the US and applied for first spousal visa August 2013
* Moved to the UK on said visa October 2013
* FLR(M) applied for  May 2016. Biometrics requested June 2016. Approval given July 2016.
* ILR applied for January 2019 (using priority processing). Approved February 2019.
* Citizenship applied for May  2019
* Citizenship approved on July 4th 2019
* Ceremony conducted on August 28th 2019

Welcome to the forum, Poetry Man!  I'll chime in to echo everybody else: listen to the experts, and if you meet the requirements to sponsor your partner, we'll guide you through a successful visa application.

I always see that one ended by Refrigerator. Lol.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
