Sorry KFDancer, I wasn't alluding to you or any of the very valued helpful experts on this wonderful forum, it's just clear that the primary issue and banter on this board for better or worse focuses on spousal visas and the like...

Thank you and all the experts and others who have been so very helpful...hard and frustrating to being doing this without anyone else...

And I was a work visa.  ;)

Thanks very much for your response - I see there is a lot less interest on this forum for we that are not running into the arms of a hopeful love for life...just the hum-drum having lived here and worked here for many years...congratulations on getting a date - I'm persevering...this too shall pass!

I'm sorry ceg, I would have replied but I felt that I was starting to sound repetitive.  :-\\\\

Honestly, all you can do is keep trying. What is your date range for when you can apply to when you have to apply by?

We are behind you though, don't worry about that!  :)

It’s not deliberate, it’s just that the majority of people who join this forum are applying for partner/spouse visas. We get very few people joining who are applying under Tier visas.

Therefore the majority of our advice is spousal visa based because that’s what most people are applying for.

I see what you did there!  ;)

As has been said though, that's is purely because the demographic of this forum primarily consists of partners. Please don't feel left out though, you are welcome to  join in with any of the discussions!  :)

ceg, I wonder if this is partly the reason that you've not been able to get an appointment yet?

ARGGGG! Thank you Larrabee...that could be throwing some additional spanners in the works...now I'm even MORE panicked about this all! I have until the end of October to secure my ILR...

Thanks again everyone and best of luck to all of us!

Remember, you only have to apply for ILR before your current visa expires, it doesn't have to be granted by then so you always have the option of submitting your application by post, as a last resort.

Thanks very much - the trouble is I am traveling to the US 20 November - 3 December to play some concerts; and my visa ends 14 December - also, I have an 80 year old mom in the US - I cannot let go of my passport for months and months!

Understood. :)  I really hope you are able to get an appointment before the system changes but I think that it's highly likely that there is still going to be some sort of premium option available. It's pretty lucrative for them and I can't see them not continuing to take advantage of that.

Staffing costs are huge for any employer  and this work has been contracted out to save the taxpayers some money. Services have to be self funding but immigration still isn't yet.

From the little I have read on this, it was something like 55 of the 60 centres will be post offices and these will be for the vulnerable eg refugees who can't speak English? That documents can be scanned to UKVI and in some cases, passports scanned too.

If any priority service is offered, I guess it could end up as it is now, where the more that apply for this the longer the queue gets? Unless they offer the £2,500 service for ILR, as Parliament was discussing making that cheaper if their application was easy to deal with and making that service a maximum of 2.5k.

This is the government statement on the new system.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/sopra-steria-has-been-awarded-a-new-ukvi-contract

The one good thing is that applicants will be able to retain original documents including passports and everything will be copied and sent to UKVI. In addition applicants will be able to upload their own documents before their appointment. The plan is to use libraries but I saw a statement that libraries were objecting to that proposal as they felt it was putting too much responsibility on library staff. So who knows!?

Some law firms say there will be no more PSC appointments except for vulnerable persons, like, Sirius says, refugees and asylum seekers. That is not clear yet and one would hope that there would be some type of priority service, at an additional cost,  available. Otherwise applicants may be waiting for months and there is always the concern that copies/uploaded documents get 'lost' or never received' !

Married 1966, left UK 1969, returned 1998, left again 2000, returned June 2014 (husband on spousal visa) granted FLR(M) November 30th 2016  and ILR on  24th May, 2019. Yeah!

Oh yeah, that was it, libraries, not post offices :). They have computers, scanners and  printers and staff to help.

Uploaded documents are not lost (TCP/IP) and they remain on the system. The applicant and  UKVI will be able to see what was sent.

Can speak from experience with image capture systems... Things get lost or scanned to the wrong bucket/queue etc. And you don't always realise theres a system or training issue until its happened a few times. I would not feel confident with this system based on the current experiences with UKVI not asking for missing documents.

My concern is that while you keep your passport, it doesn’t state if you keep your current BRP.  If not, keeping the passport doesn’t help as you can’t get into the UK without a BRP.   :-\\\\
