I cant speak for everyone... but for me, in the last 4+ years, I have only had 1 period.  It lasted 14 days, was very light, and since then i havent had one for 3 years!  The drug affects everyone differently, though... maybe i have been lucky!

No period, increased vaginal dampness (ahem), and increased sex drive are all quite common side effects from depo.

Of course...all forms of birth control have less than positive side effects.  Depo has been recently found to affect bone density.

But it's worth it for not having a period lol.  ;D

Yeah, but you don't need to drink wine for the same effect just when you're trying for a baby.  It has the same effect especially when trying to have a little bit of fun as well.   ;D

I'm thinking of switching to depo - in fact I'm going to try to get to the doctor in the next week or two to see about it. So if you don't have a period, do you not have PMS/PMT anymore either? I still have mild to moderate PMS on the pill and it's definitely had sexual side effects that I'm getting rather sick of, so I think the shot will end up being a better option for me.

I was having absolutely *mental* moodswings on the pill, pms on crack. :P  I get slightly hormonal after the injection, and around the time it's due - but nowhere near the same intensity or duration.

Not to be the voice of panic, but depo-provera and norplant have been linked to osteoporosis and cardio-vascular disease in young women.  Also because they are so new, the long-term effects of them haven't been studied.  there is an increasing body of evidence that long-term estrogen deprivation (which the shot and norplant cause) increases women's risk of breast cancer to post-menopause levels. As with everything, it is a balance between present quality of life and the potential long term sacrifices...I just think people should be informed about their choices.

I am happy to send people the scientific articles on long-term birth control if you PM me...I can't post the links, because they are subscription only.

I had thought depo has been in Europe for at least 20 years. I wouldn't say that is any new type of birth control.

Another question...If you are a woman in the military, and you are on active duty during that time of the month what do you do?

I have to admit I am a bit baffled by that question. I would imagine you do the same thing you do if you are on any job during that time of the month, you handle what you need to handle.
